Democrat "whoremongers" in the White House |
|
before the "godly Bush" restored the Lord to Washington DC. This from a RW caller on C-SPAN.
Are these people serious?

3. Better to be a whoremonger than a warmonger. |
|
Less people get hurt.
Are these people serious? Unfortunately, I think they are. Some people honestly believe it's better to start an unnecessary war that kills over 500 Americans (and untold Iraqis) than to have an affair. Unless you're a Republican that has an affair, in which case they don't care. I'm not sure if it's stupidity or just plain hypocrisy. Or maybe a combination of the two.

Clinton staffers wore bluejeans in the White House. Bluejeans! How undignified!
And they often ordered pizza during late-night policy discussions. The horror!
I'm serious, I have seen both those "complaints" in GOPspams.

6. I heard that crazy old woman |
|
I was getting dressed for work, and when she said that I did a double take.
Bizarro world indeed.
I've noticed that all of the real looney and moralistic callers have one thing in common: they all sound like "Miss Daisy".

11. I may be a bit biased |

but doesn't it seem like all of the truly whacko callers on C-SPAN tend to be RW'ers? You rarely hear super-extremist views from the left.
Of course, my perspective of what is a "super-extremist" lefty perspective is probably different from say, my RW father-in-law's thoughts on the matter! :)

15. Your Closer To The Truth Than You Think |
|
I've been watching for more than 20 years and i'm a numbers guy, and i can guarantee that there is at least a 5:1 chance that an extreme view will come from the far right. There are some extremists from the left that call in, but not too often. I'd say maybe 3 a week, vs. a bare minimum of 15 who say things like this old biddy did this morning.

It may be (as some people have suggested) that RW extremists do a great job of staying on message - so when four or five of them call, they are basically stating the same thing. The diversity of opinion and lack of message-unity on the left may serve to dilute the volume of extreme leftist views.
While most Democratic C-SPAN callers share a dislike of Bush and won't hesitate to criticize him, his administration, and his policies, you rarely hear the LW equivalent of the woman who suggested that "Democratic whoremongers" led God to use Bush to restore his presence in the White House.

12. To a lot of these RW callers |

it seems like Bush* = God. Or at the very least, God sent Bush* to lead America through this "very difficult time." I've heard the Pat Robertsons of the world make similar claims.
I can't remember a time since I've been alive and following politics (I'm in my mid-30's) where religion and government have been so intertwined. I'll try to link a statement from a New Hampshire state senator I heard on a local radio show here in the Granite State defending a constitutional ban on Gay marriage because God would destroy America if we allowed "homa-sexuals" to legally marry. He stated that the Bible says its an "abomination" and that was a good enough justification to forever ban the practice - afterall (he said), look what God did to the Romans (yep, he actually said that).
This is from an elected state official, who happens to be a Democrat, by the way. I'll post the link and his name when the NHPR website is up and working (its experiencing technical difficulties right now).

13. "Look what God did to the Romans"? |

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this, but didn't Rome fall after it converted to Christianity? Before that, they were pretty successful.

16. On That Point, Granite |
|
Why don't any of these people ever decide that the reason we have these difficult times is BECAUSE of Bush. And, why is it that people who believe in a punitive God want to see Bush as leading the country out of these times, but don't surmise that God is punishing the country because of him. The Professor

18. Apparently, according to some of our C-SPAN callers |
|
God punished us because of the "whoremonger" Democrats in the White House prior to Bush.
The last 3 years have been just crazy. Anti-intellectualism, rabid religiousity, hyper-nationalism, xenophobia, and social intolerance are slowly creeming into the mainstream, and that is truly scary.

And as mindlessly propagandized.
As willing to kill if they had the right commands (and assurances, a la Mississippi 1940, that they would get away with it) from their Bushevik Masters.
I fear for the future.
