Why is no one challenging Bush on what will happen after the turnover?
It is incredibly frustrating to watch the infotainment news networks repeatedly air military reports that the US expects attacks in Iraq to increase as we approach the date for handing over "control" in Iraq to an Iraqi governmental authority at the end of June. Witness Falluja today.

And what, pray tell, do they expect to happen after the transfer takes place? It is implied by Bush that the Resistance will recognize they lost the game and just give up. Just wait until the transfer is over and things will get better.

Fat chance. If we can expect attacks to increase as we lead up to the transfer, I can imagine they will increase at an even greater rate after that date.

I think Bush has planted in the sheeples head this idea that things are going to be rough the next few months, but everything will get better after June 30. And they will expect our troops to start coming home then.

Instead, they may get a full blown civil war with US troops caught in the crossfire.

1. You will be proven exactly right. Another nail in Bush's downfall.

3. I don't know,
do you really think that the American public is going to care about Iraqis killing each other? I mean, where was the concern in Africa during the recent genocides between Hutu & ?Tsuti? ? For that matter, where IS the concern about African slavery, currently going on? What about the Balkans? There wasn't any concern about religious rioting and murder in India until the Muslims managed to tick us off. (And, please, I know that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful). What about the oppressions in China?

So if there is rioting and bombing andmassacres in Iraq, will anyone care if American soldiers are not getting killed? You are far more optimistic than I.

2. the plan is to move our troops out of the cities
away from the fighting. The bloodshed will be suffered by Iraqis, so it can be ignored by the media. That's the plan, anyway.

I think the dems will force attention to this. I've heard Hillary Clinton and Tom Daschle both suggest that the timing of the transfer is all about the election, and that it's a big mistake.

4. Devolving into civil war
is a distinct possibility that I one just this morning heard exactly one mumble about on NPR. I was 1/2 awake so I didn't hear what show it was going to be on.

Handover to what? I don't know that anybody (us Amis) knows enough about the situation to speculate intelligently. But I think it's wrong to ignore it completely.

The neocons only ever want the chance to get out their war toys and play with them. The very minute that part is over, they hightail it out of town. They are not interested in long-term consequences.
