6. It's all garbage to me
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 05:59 AM by namvet73
I don't watch, so I am not part of their product. It's targeted toward the young. I'm (sorta) old. Some of those shows convey very poor values.

Q: what does television sell?
A: the Audience

The audience is their product. When you watch, you add to the value. Their customer/client is the advertiser. The shows are NOT the product and the viewer is not the customer of the broadcaster.

From the viewpoint of the sponsor/client, the commercial IS the show and the show is just "filler" and is actually labeled so by the client. The show is bait for the viewer. The viewer should hope that the bait is tasty and nutritious (to the mind) enough to be worth his/her time. The television set is a voting machine. Watching is your vote for the bait.

For best value to you, vote for good bait and go to the bathroom, get a snack or change the cat's box during the commercial.

If the sponser is really nice to you, they will at least put on an entertaining commercial that does not insult your intelligence and sell you a product that is worth buying.

Truly yours,
Old Fart that needs and occasional eyebrow clipping.
PS: PBS is a slightly different game in that some viewers pay, so the programming often has better value, but they too are slipping in more commercials. The most valued client is the one that pays the most. The less the viewer pays, the more he/she becomes the product instead of the client.

7. Just one more thing
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 06:06 AM by namvet73
Also remember that during an election year, a political party or candidate becomes a client and YOU ARE STILL THE PRODUCT. The candidate now pays more for television (or radio) to deliver more product to them; that's YOU. You become a more valued product if you vote for the client. The client's immediate income is votes and ultimately money. They want to stay or become employed.

In this case, "DUMBYA" is just claptrap to me. I am not a good product for him because he won't get any votes from me. He won't trap any of my claps.

Thank You and Good bye for now,
NamVet73
(I was in a war for part of my hitch, it was not fun and it didn't achieve much. Apparently it didn't even teach us a lesson, either.) Support our troops by learning a lesson--Don't get into more wars unnecessarily. Also, write to them and let them know that they are loved and make them feel that they will survive. Take my word for it, many of the troops are anti-war. They can't say so without consequence.

9. Well I do not watch Fox as I do not understand it.
I do not understand why all those so called Up-tight Christians watch half dressed, brainless girls, on trash news and say they are the only true news on. I am sure it is the same people who go on over drive over Bill Clinton's sex life but I can not prove that.
