Bush's gift to the nation? More human waste in your drinking water.
When it rains, EPA would let waste pour
Plan could boost dumping into lake
By Michael Hawthorne
Tribune staff reporter
Published February 15, 2004

The Bush administration wants to make it easier for cities to release partially treated sewage during heavy rains and snowmelts, a policy shift that could boost levels of disease-causing pathogens in Lake Michigan and other waterways.

Sewage spills into the lake already are a source of E. coli and other bacterial "bugs" that frequently lead to beach closings during the summer. Chicago banned swimming at Lake Michigan beaches 130 times last year; there were 178 beach closings in Lake County.

Under a policy change pushed by the Environmental Protection Agency, municipal sewage plants around the lake and across the country would gain explicit authority during wet weather to skip a required treatment that kills most of the bacteria, viruses and parasites in wastewater.

3. Make it unusable & GE will profit. NYT today: water as 'growth business'
Clean water for industrial and municipal use..

Already many cities have privatized their water supply..Houston's is owned by the French. Huge profits as time goes on.

They should build a pipeline from the lake to the white house so Bush can enjoy his work.

8. Here's an idea... (trust me, you'll love this)
When a politician comes up with an idea that might prove harmful to people, EVERY politician and corporate supporter of the idea must PERSONALLY live under the conditions that the idea proposes for 9 months, before introducing it officially into session.

How long before these dipshits finally stop licking the rectums of big corporate supporters and finally start working for THE PEOPLE again?!

14. Dean talked about this in his recent speech
I certainly don't remember the exact words, but he asked "which has most toxins in...urine or lake and river water?"

The audience respoinded urine. He said "WRONG! Now don't go telling people the Dr. recomends drinking urine! I don't . There are body waste in urine, but the toxins in the source of your drinking water is truely more toxic."

I thought it was a great point!

15. Hate to tell ya'll this
The authority to pollute will be nothing more than de-criminalizing the current actions of sewer plants. (Sh)It happens every time it rains hard in almost every large sewer system. Instead of coming up with ways to stop the pollution, they are attempting to make it legal.

It is called a Permit....A Permit to Pollute.

16. What will it take?
"Clean Air" Initiatives that POISON the air you breathe? Mad Cow and Monsanto POISONING THE FOOD YOU EAT, and now this thinly veiled attempt to POISON THE WATER that all will be FORCED to turn to "private enterprise," (for a price of course), to obtain the clean drinking water that my sisters and I while running through the woods so many years ago could refresh our bodies with as it bubbled out of the ground? With NO MTBE risk? Who is paying attention?

18. The Children
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 08:53 PM by BeFree
The children will pay the price for our generation having it's way with the environment.

No longer will the waters be safe to swim in, let alone drink freely.

The ideal days of taking in all that our world has to offer the young at heart, are fast coming to an end.

Another part, maybe the last part, of America's fabled Frontier now becomes like all the others: Managed.

The problem is - our management of the waters is done poorly. Not only due to personel mismanagement, but financial as well.
