Is enlistment and reenlistment in the National Guard up?
There was just a story on CNN where some military type said that's the case, but I thought just the opposite was true. Is there any data one way or another to support the claim?

1. Creative accounting

No doubt, they've found some obscure statistic to make guard enlistment appear to go up.

Or, it could simply be the time of year that High School seniors are enlisting in preparation for graduation. With regards to recent months, it's an increase. However, their overall year to year statistics could still be down.

2. Doesn't seem credible.
I've seen stories claiming they were 'meeting their goals' or similar.

But, it's hard to believe that you can get people to sign up, knowing it's likely to be a year in Iraq rather than a weekend a month.

3. Well....if you take into account the so-called "stop loss"....
then of course "reenlistment" is "up". :eyes:
Besides, the imperial troopers don't have any real jobs outside
the military...so they might as well stay in there.

4. I'm sure you didn't mean to knock people in the guard.
They didn't start this war. They are pawns in it. Many are young people who needed the extra money and maybe some job training. We should be careful of what we say about these people. :-)

6. All three of those people appear to be right age for draft
Imagine those three dying in Iraq for Haliburton. If they had their way that could easily be a possibility.:-(

7. Re-enlistments are way down
In the regular service, the reserves, and the national guard. If this were happening during Clinton's administration, the Republicans would have hung him in the streets.

8. CNN.
Hardly a credible source. If you have been following the news you would have your answer. The National Guard was never intended to be used like this. You can't defend the nation in Iraq.

Use your head, would you sign up?
