Even if Bush wins, we win |
|
Many people seem to feel that if Bush wins in November it is all over. I actually think that, should it happen, we will have won far more than even if we had taken the election.
What do I mean? Well, think about it.
Let's say Bush does win. Granted, we are majorly screwed for several years. However, long term we win in a big way.
Four more years we will likely see a destroyed economy (right now is paradise in comparison), war (with a draft, IMO), anti-gay constitutional amendment/other hate legislation, social/worker protections flushed down the drain, and a substantial lack of other freedoms.
Once they bring these things to pass the republican party will be so hated they will not get anyone else in power for another decade or two minimum. It may awaken the american public enough so that they NEVER let a right wing nut case in to power again. End result, we win congress and the white house and keep them for a considerable amount of time.

22. Bingo! Why don't these voters know already, what 4 more years |
|
of bush would be like?? Why do they have to live through such a ghastly time, before they wake up??
To me, anyone who doesn't, by NOW, know why they should not vote for bush, can't be trusted to vote at all. There is no telling what people who are that uninformed would use for voting criteria. Perhaps the last yard sign they saw on the way to the polls?? :eyes:

3. I hope it won't be an issue because -- |
|
-- I think Bush loses New Hampshire, Ohio, West Virginia, and Missouri this time.
That's enough electoral votes to tip it to the Democrats if we hold all of the other Gore states.
Democrats whup the Chimp in November!

have Bush lose and then have Kerry appoint a few dozen independent prosecutors to investigate the Bushies.
That would be sweet.

If we don't get them out now, we may NEVER get rid of them. Four more years of power could give them all they need to change the way the country operates forever. We may end up with an imperial government that kills all dissenters and those considered "dangerous". This may be an extreme view but I think we are dealing with some very extreme people that will stop at nothing to achieve these ends. We all lose if Bush wins and the sad part is most of his supporters don't realize he hates them too.

This sounds like a Naderesque it needs to get worse to get better post and the simple fact is that with gerrymandering into 2010, this is NOT feasible.
We are DANGEROUSLY close right now to losing our very system of government.
I have to question the sincerity of this post.

Well, actually right... but does it matter? Have we passed the point of no return? Remember, our society depends on oil. How many Dems are willing to find new ways to eliminate our dependence on it?
When the oil is gone, so is modern society.

I think when we quit sucking down oil it will be like an awakening, that we can be self sufficient. We will live in a cleaner planet, and we will not have to go invade other countries over fear of losing our oil.

14. Sort of sounds like the apocalypse theory--- I guess if we destroy the |
|
nation, things can only look UP from there! :eyes:
Seriously, it is going to take decades to try to recover from the damage wrought to the economy, to civil liberties and the law, to environmental and corporate regulatory policy-- you name it. No offense, but the closest comparison I can think of to your suggestion is that advanced by Nader four years ago. He as much as said (paraphrased) that even if the Bush-run Repugs were allowed to get in power and really screw things up, that that was probably a good thing in that it would finally wake people up.
Well, four years of destruction, requiring decades to correct, is more than enough for me. I just can't see the silver lining you suggest.

17. Don't forget the historic pattern: |
|
Controversial presidents who pull off being re-elected have ended up facing impeachment or very serious inquiries into their crimes while in office.
*IF* His Chimperial Highness is not thoroughly trashed in November -- which I now believe will be the case -- he will be impeached.
I think your timing is a little off. The tide has already turned. My little birds tell me that *no one* likes him anymore. The opposition to Bush reaches across all American demographics, whereas support of smirky the chimp is only among war-profiteering plutocrats, the religiously insane, and authoritarians.
His popularity has been exaggerated, or even perhaps misreported -- kind of like the darned good evidence that lead to the invasion of Iraq. Don't believe it -- he's worn out his welcome. More people hate him every day.
He is *not* going to be re-elected.

18. No. These 4 years were much worse than I ever expected |
|
On another forum I used to visit, there were all these people saying they were going to move to Canada when Bush was selected. I said that they should relax because he really couldn't be that bad. He has greatly exceeded the damage that I thought was possible from a president. I don't know if we can take another 4 years. He might get even worse because he doesn't have to worry about getting elected. My husband and I might go into exile.

These are terrible things for the country.
And why do you think we could convince the public that these problems are Bush's fault? He isn't taking heat for the massive fuckups he has already put us through, why do you think anything would change.
Shit, chances are we will be blamed for all of this, despite the fact that we have a government completely controlled by Republicans.

i mean, look at where germany is now.
do you honestly think germany would be where it was today without the huge postwar american investment and rebuilding? and none of that would have happened if all those old buildings were still standing and germany was calmly puttering along. they would today be like spain. yawn.
gimme a break. just how far do you really think the pendulum must swing?

The OP is obiously blissfully ignorant of the incredible destruction that has, on ALL LEVELS, already taken place. This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no foolin' around. The survival of many species, INCLUDING OURS, is at stake. Sometimes I wonder if my faith in Homo Sapiens is misplaced. We've become an infection that consumes everything in its path and produces SHIT. We RAPE our host and spew shit that POISONS all of her systems that have supported us for milleneum. Mother Earth can and will continue without us...

then, by your logic, doesn't that mean we LOSE? I mean, sooner or later, right? Pendulum's gotta swing *back*, right? We'll be blamed for everything! The Republicans will come back stronger than ever! *I* know! Let's take a pledge to NEVER WIN ANYTHING AGAIN! The whole country will go to hell, but we can have a heck of a great epitaph on our national tombstone:
"IT WASN'T *OUR* FAULT."
