Would it matter if Howard Dean was the front runner and John McCain was President? Just curious?

Depends on the circumstances. If we found out that the person in question participated in massacring Vietnamese villagers and covering it up, then maybe that would have some bearing on their character. If they protested the war, thats a completely different story.

Military service isn't relevant either.
I voted no.

by dressing himself in a military uniform and then it turns out he is a fraud for a whole bunch of reasons, one of them being his actions during Vietnam.

You could go both ways. Lets face it,everyone my age and older were trying like HELL to get out of going to VN. It was not winable and no one wanted to die.
Do I think they should look into chimps NG records, hell yes. He joined to stay out of Nam,he should have done his full time. Clinton used connections to stay out of Nam,and many millions more did the same thing.
The Repigs decided in 1992 to make this a BIG issue,so we'll just keep throwing it back at em...

10. Yesterday's MSRNC question: "Should the Vietnam War years matter?" |
|
To that question I answered:
You have a lot of nerve asking that question. Why don't you take a trip to the "Wall," where 58,244 names will always matter. See if you can keep a dry eye while you descend into the emotional maelstrom of the wall. Then, see if you can ask this disingenuous question again without ghosts whispering in your ears.
Todays question is slightly different. Presidential Politics: Should the Vietnam War years matter? My answer to that:
We have a sitting president who brags on being a "war president", who avoided service in Vietnam through a political appointment to the Texas Air Guard (a sinecure that he could not see completed, and perhaps lied about), who preens and struts on a carrier deck in a flight suit and parachute harness for the sake of a photo-op, who taunts the enemy with "Bring 'em on!" because he really has no clue what is happening in Iraq, who has minions who denigrate the Vietnam service of Silver Star-recipient Max Cleland, and who regularly uses the imperial "we" plus an action verb when talking about Vietnam. His opponent in November will most likely be another Vietnam War hero, John Kerry. Yeah, I think Vietnam is germane to this race.

12. If it mattered when Clinton was running for president |
|
then you're damn straight it matters now. The Republicans do not get a free pass simply because they're on the receiving end of the shit now.
