"Most soldiers interviewed here declined to offer..................
their opinions on the president's service. "

So sayeth some of the Guardsmen Chimpy visited today in Louisiana.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,

I wonder why????

Got to hand it to * -- he knows absolutely NO shame.

So this is his feeble attempt at spin control.

He was booed in Daytona, so that ego must have been smarting real bad.

Chimpy needed a nice, safe, CONTROLLED, adoring audience. Got to prop that enormous, pompous ego back up. Hey!!! A military audience. By Jingy, I can double my offensive by appearing before a National Guard audience.

You asshole.

6. I witnessed Poppy getting booed at the baseball All Star game in 1992.
In a conservative city (San Diego),during a fairly conservative event, the year he was seeking re-election.

His appearance did follow the throwing out of the first ball by San Diego homegrown Ted Williams, but I remember when his name was announced, and he walked out to meet Ted on the mound, at least half of the 68,000 in attendance were angrily booing.

Could this be a bu$hie replay? God, I hope so.

5. Worse than that...
A coerced audience. An Audience that dares not say anything bad for fear of punishment.

8. I watched a bit of this on TV ...
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 12:31 AM by Trajan
And though those directly around the Nincompoop-in-Chief were applauding him wildly, those soldiers who formed the 'rear guard', kept their hands down in their pockets ...

It was clear that in THAT picture at THAT time: soldiers were NOT inclined to offer gratuitous applause to pResident Codpiece, whether he wanted it or not ...

I think the military knows better, and they know the score ...

They know what is up, and I greatly doubt that the PNACers are going to get the military vote ... Just a feeling, but I believe that ...

They arent stupid ...

21. I hope he stick with such audiences
The more he believes his own propaganda the more arrogant he becomes, and the more arrogant he becomes the more people will turn against him. I don't want us to just win this election, I'm hoping for an unequivocal LANDSLIDE.

Speaking out can be hazardous to their careers.

I am on active duty, and you can be charged with insubordination. As an officer, I can also be charged with conduct unbecoming.

13. What I hear from active duty and reserve:
from most, vocal disgust and jokes;

from formerly gungho Bushites, sullen disgust and silence, and NO support.

This is among themselves and families, not in 'public', which is a clear no-no.

14. There is an organization of Vets
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 04:40 AM by anarchy1999
sending our kids off to this illegal war can be stopped.

We just have to make it happen.

http://www.calltoconscience.net/

Give these references to your friends, your family, your brothers and sisters, wives, mothers, the ammunition they need to make it stop. Join with the Vets from former wars.

snip :

Statement to the Troops

We are veterans of the United States armed forces. We stand with the majority of humanity, including millions in our own country, in opposition to the United States' all out war on Iraq. We span many wars and eras, have many political views and we all agree that this war is wrong. Many of us believed serving in the military was our duty, and our job was to defend this country. Our experiences in the military caused us to question much of what we were taught. Now we see our REAL duty is to encourage you as members of the U.S. armed forces to find out what you are being sent to fight and die for and what the consequences of your actions will be for humanity. We call upon you, the active duty and reservists, to follow your conscience and do the right thing.

In the last Gulf War, as troops, we were ordered to murder from a safe distance. We destroyed much of Iraq from the air, killing hundreds of thousands, including civilians. We remember the road to Basra -- the Highway of Death -- where we were ordered to kill fleeing Iraqis. We bulldozed trenches, burying people alive. The use of depleted uranium weapons left the battlefields radioactive. Massive use of pesticides, experimental drugs, burning chemical weapons depots and oil fires combined to create a toxic cocktail affecting both the Iraqi people and Gulf War veterans today. One in four Gulf War veterans is disabled.

snip:

If you choose to participate in the invasion of Iraq you will be part of an occupying army. Do you know what it is like to look into the eyes of a people that hate you to your core? You should think about what your "mission" really is. You are being sent to invade and occupy a people who, like you and me, are only trying to live their lives and raise their kids. They pose no threat to the United States even though they have a brutal dictator as their leader. Who is the U.S. to tell the Iraqi people how to run their country when many in the U.S. don't even believe their own President was legally elected?

snip to the end:

There will be veterans leading protests against this war on Iraq and your participation in it. During the Vietnam War thousands in Vietnam and in the U.S. refused to follow orders. Many resisted and rebelled. Many became conscientious objectors and others went to prison rather than bear arms against the so-called enemy. During the last Gulf War many GIs resisted in various ways and for many different reasons. Many of us came out of these wars and joined with the anti-war movement.

If the people of the world are ever to be free, there must come a time when being a citizen of the world takes precedence over being the soldier of a nation. Now is that time. When orders come to ship out, your response will profoundly impact the lives of millions of people in the Middle East and here at home. Your response will help set the course of our future. You will have choices all along the way. Your commanders want you to obey. We urge you to think. We urge you to make your choices based on your conscience. If you choose to resist, we will support you and stand with you because we have come to understand that our REAL duty is to the people of the world and to our common future.

for those old enough to remember -- the only places Nixon would show up at were at military bases or at pre-screened, invitation only scripted events

22. I remember Helen Thomas saying that
she was on Charlie Rose.

She said that Nixon and Johnson were reducing to appearing before "safe" crowds, such as military crowds, at the height of their presidencies.

She predicted that the same would happen to *, too.

16. What's amazing is that Bush, a rich kid,
avoided going to Vietnam because of class privilege and family connections. This was true of many people of Bush's socio-economic strata during the Viet Nam era and it is true today.

The enlisted forces are comprised primarily of working class men and women. People who did not grow up with Bush's advantages. Most join in order to pay for college (something Bush didn't have to worry about since he came from a wealthy family). Some join because there are no job opportunities in their communities (again something Bush has never had to worry about...EARNING a paycheck and having to live off that paycheck. His family is too wealthy for its members to become wage slaves. Some of us had to WORK in our 20s and not party until we were 40)

How dare this man go to enlisted personnel seeking support for his vacation in the guard during a time of war? Particularly when many National Guard members have been in Iraq for over a year.

Neither this man nor his party (and those Dems who stick up for him) has any scruples.

17. As a commissioned officer at
Ft. Bragg we've had several opportunities to see Bush and/or his various entourage....fortunately everytime he's been at Bragg I was in the field or TDY etc...When Rummy visited Korea back in NOV, what a nightmare...1/3 of my unit was picked to attend the command performance. Also fortunatley I was decisively engaged in a project and could not be spared to blow a whole day getting to, watching and returning from his blathering speech. At work, with only one or two friends and collegues, will I discuss politics. Too much trouble and to close to retirement to blow it by spouting off my true feelings on the Shrub...

19. Update: my stepson emailed me from Kuwait
he told me is doesnt know now where they are headed but that hes in Kuwait right now and just arrived. Okay. I am praying they keep him in Kuwait, but hes an MP, so who knows. I dont want to think of him on a convoy going into Iraq. At least we sort of know where he is right now.
He said when he gets where he is supposed to go he will email again.

20. The worst thing
Is that ignorant assholes like Hannity and Limbaugh take shit like this and use it to say how much the military loves Bush.

Yeah, I guess I would pretend to tolerate someone if my choices were either that or be court martialed.
