1. Oh, Dear God...

This is the Christian version of one of my least favorite sayings: "You have to break some eggs in order to make an omelette."

More proof that fundamental religion of any kind exerts powerful pressure for the believer to completely abandon any concept of morality.

2. Sounds like Paul Hill and Eric Rudolph would agree with that
Not to mention Tim McVeigh, oops almost forgot the Kopp fellow who shot the doctor in New York...the moron who threatened abortion clinics with anthrax...Fundamentalism should be a DSM-IV(R)- listed mental disorder.

The Despoiling of America

How George W. Bush became the head of the new American Dominionist Church/State

By Katherine Yurica

With Editorial and Research Assistant Laurie Hall
Originally Published by the Yurica Report

The First Prince of the Theocratic States of America

It happened quietly, with barely a mention in the media. Only the Washington Post dutifully reported it.<1> And only Kevin Phillips saw its significance in his new book, American Dynasty.<2> On December 24, 2001, Pat Robertson resigned his position as President of the Christian Coalition.

Behind the scenes religious conservatives were abuzz with excitement. They believed Robertson had stepped down to allow the ascendance of the President of the United States of America to take his rightful place as the head of the true American Holy Christian Church.

Robertson’s act was symbolic, but it carried a secret and solemn revelation to the faithful. It was the signal that the Bush administration was a government under God that was led by an anointed President who would be the first regent in a dynasty of regents awaiting the return of Jesus to earth. The President would now be the minister through whom God would execute His will in the nation. George W. Bush accepted his scepter and his sword with humility, grace and a sense of exultation.

As Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court explained a few months later, the Bible teaches and Christians believe “… that government …derives its moral authority from God. Government is the ‘minister of God’ with powers to ‘revenge,’ to ‘execute wrath,’ including even wrath by the sword…”<3>

George W. Bush began to wield the sword of God’s revenge with relish from the beginning of his administration, but most of us missed the sword play. I have taken the liberty to paraphrase an illustration from Leo Strauss, the father of the neo-conservative movement, which gives us a clue of how the hiding is done:

Snip ...... (very long and informative)

5. By Not Holding The Position, Robertson Is Symbolically Saying
That * is now at the helm and Robertson no longer needs to fill the position.

(just my interpretation)

6. thats my question:; how open to interpretation it is...
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 04:33 PM by Charlls

i mean, from a christian fundamentalist's point of view; they would be able to see the 'signs' and interpret them as 'intended'? has this Robertson done something that symbolically was prescribed in the doctrine?

ON EDIT: Because if there was a systematically learned symbolism, and the symbolism is triggered at some point, it can denote a trend; at least its how the Bene-Gesserit implemented the technique

I still dont understand what the symbolic gesture was

7. Don't try too hard to make sense of it...
They just make most of this stuff up as they go along.

There is obviously nothing in the Bible about this. Who knows what other publications they consider 'doctrine' right now. I'd assume it changes to suit their current 'campaign', whatever it happens to be at any given time.

8. my question is : what was the meat

that they showed to the Pavlov's dog?

did the dog thought it smelled like meat?
did it salivated?

if it didnt salivated, then the symbolism is not devised, but spontaneous.

11. true, it's an exaggeration
Robertson resigned most likely due to the business scandals he's become entangled in. Obviously, Bush has pandered to the fundies - this idea that Robertson resigned as a symbol of Bush being the "Head of the American Church" is about as likely as me being Raptured tomorrow.

The Religious Right and the Secular Left do indeed make Perfect Enemies.

everyone should read this - it shows what we're up against and how long the far right/religious right have been working on the destruction of real America.

12. This is the nefarious "Christian Agenda"!
Reconstructionism has always been a fad among the fundies, and it's about as popular among fundies as orthodox communists are on DU, i.e., not at all.

I think the origial modern day Dominionist was Rushdooney. It's modern Calvinism. What's really sad is that historically, the Baptists have been major proponents of a strict separation of church and state, which changed when the fundies took over the SBC in the 1980s.

14. In the movie King there was something reminiscent of this
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 06:33 PM by Bandit
King wanted LBJ to send in Federal troops to protect the marchers on the fifty mile march from Selma to Birmingham. LBJ said to get accomplished what King wanted accomplished there was going to have to be something spectacular happen that would shake the nation so he wasn't going to give the troops. In other words he wanted some deaths to happen so the nation could be mobilized to put a stop to the segregation. A little bit of evil to accomplish a much greater good. I understand it but don't necessarily agree. We call that LIHOP
