What is Shrub trying to hide during his Gaurd service?

Why would anyone go to all of the trouble of trying to lie, distort, and (if you believe some people) destroy parts of Bush the Lesser's gaurd records unless they had something pretty serious to hide.

Anyone want to place bets?

I would doubt he would go to all of that trouble- starting in the mid ninties, well before he started his (p)residential run- if he was just trying to hide the fact that he didn't attend all of his drills and skipped out early.

Here are the facts as I see them and the conclusion I reach from them:

(1) Bush was the son of a congressman and former CIA director.
(2) Bush comes from a very rich and influential family.
(3) Bush was grounded for not taking a flight physical.
(4) Bush was not truly punished for this.
(5) Bush will not talk about possible drug use during this time.
(6) The National Gaurd was (at the time) heavilly political in nature.

This is what I see- Bush quite possibly has a drug related conviction (probably coke, but who knows) in his medical records. Because of who he was (or, more to the point, who his father was) one of his commanding officers in Texas decided to simply write him up as not having reported for a flight physical rather than trying to deal with the fallout of writing him up for cocaine possession. However, there may be other records of cocaine use in his files. Hence, Bush has been carefully trying to scrub his records for years, and does not want his medical records in there- quite possibly because he failed a drug test somewhere.

Just a thought. Pure conjecture.

3. I've got a theory

They released a medical exam report with his height and weight blacked out. Perhaps he had someone else "stand in" for him to avoid testing positive for drugs. That would be an illegal act.

4. I think your speculations are reasonable.

Others have developed similar theories around here. The general speculation is that he dodged the physical because it would have revealed drug use, that he got busted for coke, & was made to do time in community service at Project PULL in Houston in return for expungement of his record. James Hatfield's book Fortunate Son presents this theory in some detail.

IMHO this is why Rove'n'Drudge tried so hard to step on the AWOL story last week.

Do what you can to keep this story going, people. Somebody's bound to turn something up eventually.
