Simpsons rerun - funny then (Clinton era) not so funny now (shrub)

Yesterday I saw the episode where Sideshow Bob runs for mayor (with the help of an obvious Rush Limbaugh character, Burge Barlow - thank you writers!). I absolutely loved this episode when it first aired and it cracked me up. Upon seeing it again I had an air of nostalgia (for the sweet Clinton days) and anger. The thing that got me most was when Bob, after admitting voter fraud, said "Your guilty conscience may force you to vote Democratic, but deep down inside you secretly long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king. That's why I did this: to protect you from yourselves."

Sound like real life?


Sidenote -- the episode is titled "Sideshow Bob Roberts". Anybody whose seen Bob Roberts A) - would appreciate this episode and B) - is a friend of mine

I love when Bob is being introduced to the Republican party and there's a water cooler in the hallway that gurgles and the members ask breathlessly, "What did he say?".
