|
HI,
I did a search on draft under google and found this.
My son will be 17 in june of 2005 and I will die inside just like the others should he get drafted.

1. It is your job as a parent to protect your son. |
|
Back in the day, my father told me that he would personally drive me to Canada if I was drafted. Luckily, I came up with a high-enough number to be safe, but it was nice to know that he cared.

8. Repeat after me, DRAFT |
|
We do need an army, as nobody in the world is quite ready to sing kumbaya... when that happens then we will all lay down our guns, and transform them into farming implements, but I do not see that happening anytime soon.
That said if your son wants to join, and he is 18, you can't do nothing legally.
Now if your son does not want to join and there is a draft, there is something you and him can do, START NOW his CO file.

for all our sons and daughters and for all the others who have been killed and maimed by this administration. Neither of my sons will go, I am not sure how they plan on escaping it but I think they would both rather go to prison. Again, the tears. That is also not what I saw in their future.

7. The best way to keep your kids out of the draft... |
|
Is to vote democrat in 2004.
If you have any right wing friends (or centrists who voted Bush in 2000) with kids that will be draft eligible in 2005, maybe you should tell them about the pentagon trying to fill local draft boards by January 2005- e.g., right after the next election.
If Shrub is in office then, I can almost garuntee the draft will start up soon afterwards.
Maybe THAT should be the issue the democratic nominee should use against Bush- Ask why he is trying to get the draft started back up?

9. A draft will never pass... |
|
Just another boogieman to distract us.
It would take a major war to trigger a draft.

10. And you don't think Bush could arange that? |
|
Maybe another terrorist strike? This time from Iran? And maybe some of them from Syria?
You wouldn't have though Bush could sell a war on Iraq, but he did that anyway.
Hell, they already have a draft going- it's called Stop-loss.
My brother was due to retire from the Navy after he had his 20 years in, and was politely told that he was not allowed to leave.
And as a side note, no re-enlistment bonus for him, either.
In all likelyhood, they will start a small draft first. Just sort of a few people to fill in some slots because our troops are stretched too thin. Then it will grow. A few more the next year. A few more the next.
Think of it as "Draft creep".

My hubby was allowed to retire and his MOS is critical... and they are critically short...
We have nice retired cards now, but if there is a draft, I am counting on them recalling him

13. Buy him a dress - It's as simple as that. |
|
Look if the military doesn't want gays then why not use their own homophobia to your advantage. Years ago It would have stigmatized him but today things might be a little different. If I had a kid of draft age that's what I would try to talk him into doing. Us poor folks don't get a chance to enlist in the champaign units.

16. Well, there *is* always the French solution |
|
No, not surrender. I'm talking the OTHER French solution.
However, since insurrection is illegal (odd, considering that's how this country was formed), I would never suggest such a thing.
