Bush just said he cut taxes because of the bad economy. He just lied.
In his bid for the Presidency in 2000 against John Mcain, he was touting his tax cut policy as being part of compassionate conservatism. His statements were made during a great economy.

And now the lying thief just said that his tax cut policy was based on the bad economy, 9/11 and people like Jeffrey Skilling. He just lied and I sure hope that the right wing media picks up on this, it's just another glaring example of his lack of credibility. Anne Richards wisely stated years ago about Bush "Don't listen to what he says, watch what he does."

Bush is a bloody liar.

1. His tax cut originally came around I think because of Forbes
A lot of people liked his flat tax idea and his idea to make multimillionaires (like himself) pay a one time tax to pay down the national debt.

People, however, tend to have a short term memory. We need tax cuts because the economy is good and the government has YOUR money and should give it back. We need tax cuts because the economy is bad and we need to stimulate it.

We need to invade Iraq because they have weapons of mass destruction. We need to invade Iraq because they helped plan 9/11. We need to invade Iraq because the people are oppresed and would welcome us. We invaded Iraq because Saddam was a bad person.

The goal is the same, just not the reasoning. The mark of a truly dangerous man.

3. That was his whole argument FOR tax cuts up until 9-11...
The economy didn't start to tank hard until after his selection on 12/12/00.

...then, lucky him, he hit the trifecta.

6. I liked his line
about there is a lot of money in Washington. He didn't bother to say it is borrowed money. I have started watching him again to see how much bull he is throwing. And CNN didn't even carry his speech.

8. Also he was going to put part of the surplus in a Reserve Fund just in
case at some point down the road the economy might take a turn for the worse. He said it was doubtful that it would because it was so strong and he was going to cut taxes and make it even stronger, but he wanted to have some sort of answer to the Democrats asking "What if the economy tanks because of tax cuts?" Where is that Reserve Fund when we need it? Did he lie about creating the fund?

5. funny, in 2000 he said he cut them because of the surplus
-snip-

BLUE ASH, Ohio (CNN) -- Weaving his way toward the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Texas Gov. George W. Bush touted his agenda of tax cuts and Social Security reform during a campaign rally in the bellwether state of Ohio.

"There is a surplus not because of the genius of goverment, there's a surplus because the taxes on the people who work for a living are the highest they have been as a percentange since World War II," Bush told a rally at a baseball field in Blue Ash, a suburb of Cincinnati.

"My opponent believes the surplus belongs to the government," Bush said in one of his only references to his Democratic rival, Vice President Al Gore. "I belive the surplus is the people's money, and we ought to share it."

9. Greenspan.
I remember back then that Greenspan was claiming to be worried about paying back the federal debt too quickly.

11. On the nose
One of the arguments that bushsucks* gave at the time to support a tax break was: the good economy. What a lyin' sack of horse-shit.

13. Tax Cuts Were Supposedly to Give the SURPLUS Back to the People
Indeed.

Tax cuts are the answer to everything.

Good economy: Tax cuts give the money back to the people

Bad economy: Tax cuts spur growth.

15. Is bush a pathological liar or just a regular liar?
Everything he says is a lie, and I start of wonder if he knows he's lying anymore or if the lies are deliberate? Anyone have any ideas?

16. The lies are deliberate.
They are shameless. They know that a sound bite is worth a thousand words and all they need to do is throw out the lie and it will stick with the sheeple base.
