Smirky wants to see Gibson film |
|
Mike Malloy devoted a good chunk of his show to this subject last night. Not sure what to make of it at this point, other than the fact that if * is interested in it, I'll give it a pass. http://salon.com/news/wire/2004/02/20/bush_gibson_film/index.html

1. here's how it will play in a WH press conference: |
|
Q: Scott, could you tell us what the president thought about "The Passion"?
McClellan: Our position on this is known. "The Passion" is a movie, and there are actors, and there were words in that movie. I have said from this podium many times that the President believes in the importance of compassion in society, and how important faith is to strengthening those values. But make no mistake. The tax cuts must be made permanent so that more people will have money in their pockets, and then they can go to the movies and buy popcorn and candy and sodas, and that will create jobs and help to strengthen our already strong and growing economy. And in a post-9/11 world, protecing the people of the United States is his first priority, and that is what he will continue to work for. And when we have a free and prosperous and democratic Iraq, then they too will have the opportunity to see "The Passion" and determine whether or not they like it. And let me add, 9/11, 9/11, terror, terror, madman, terror.

he'll inevitably be asked whether or not he liked it.
if he says "yes," then that could anger some who see the movie as being antisemitic.
if he says "no," then he angers his fundie base.
ergo my post above.
but i agree that there are more important fish to fry, and then have that fish feed hundreds via a miracle.

4. According to Malloy, it's filled with vile images of Jesus |
|
lots of blood and gore - i.e., the crucifixion.
Plus, Gibson's dad's comments on the Holocaust being a fake, or not as brutal as has been reported.

8. I do not want to see a movie full of lies and innuendos |
|
I think everyone who dares see the movie do the research first - Constantine rewrote "history" at the bidding of the Catholic Church.

6. He's catering to his fundy base. |

They seem to be pushing the movie pretty hard. Going to use it as a witnessing tool. I'm reminded of the hell-house craze.

7. It is a lot easier than reading the book |
|
Why wouldn't he want to see the movie? We know he doesn't read anything except children's books.
