Bush's Credibility Gap
There is a quote I stumbled upon somewhere. If you know the source, please let me know.

"For every Credibility Gap there is a Gullibility Fill"

I don't doubt that this is true. There is no shortage of stupid people in the world, and I think everyone alive falls into the stupid catagory now and then. Some people just choose to live there.

So, is this quote true enough to keep Bush in power?

1. that's what he's relying on......
i firmly believe that, upon seeing how idiotic southerners were after the civil rights act, the republicans decided right on the spot to make americans as stupid as possible.

this plab met with smashing success, and that's why there are so many republicans in office today, and the only reason why bush has a chance of winning the election again....

"stupid is as stupid does"

"you deserve what you vote for"

3. Hey, welcome to DU.
:hi:

I can't accept that people deserve what they vote for, or the oft said, "people get the government they deserve." The problem with these ideas are that only some people support these governments but everyone gets stuck dealing with them. And even the people who vote for these schmucks were fooled into supporting them. They just don't know they've been fooled.

So I hesitate to use words like "deserve." But I still think gulibility is a huge problem. Or as you said, "stupid is as stupid does." Don't you wish there was a way to suddenly make more people more intelligent.

(Doh! Like funding education, maybe?) :P

5. you say tomato, i say f-ing tomato....
:)

it's thoroughly deserved - americans are rich, fat, lazy, and whiny. they'll blame the whole damn world for their problems before they'll blame themselves...

the republicans made the following deal (the true contract with america): "we'll tell you you're pretty every day, you ugly bitch, if you let us screw you up the ##$@@%". americans, starting largely with the south, actually signed on the dotted line...

bah - they deserve what they vote for..... they got themselves into this mess, no one but the public is gonna get em out...

they're gonna need to realize what the problem is tho, and the chances of that are slim to none.....

the hardest thing for a politician to do, and for the american public to admit, is that they've been wrong all along....

that's why you can't have competitions with winners/loser any more - americans are too stupid/wussy to deal with anything but being called "pretty"...

bang-up job by the republican strategists tho - doubt if i coulda done better myself - they solved their long term problem in a manner that's completely self-sustaining - rather like the 2nd law of thermo - it's extremely unlikely that an idiotic public will become intelligent....

sheesh....

6. Only 36% of the eligible voters bothers to even get out and
vote in 2000. Only 18% picked the idiot. So 18% of us don't deserve this and everyone else does. Real hard to make any headway against people that just don't care.

2. "Some people just choose to live there"
I think in this country there are many, many people who "choose
to live there." They are indoctrinated into preferring this
see-no-evil state.
This is an extremely dangerous situation for our national
security. Another power could devise ways of exploiting our
nation's point-blank refusal to face facts and accept
unpleasant truths. But it may not make any difference; if we
hang ourselves in terms of energy and the economy, a rival
power won't need to lift a finger.
As for Gov. Bush remaining in power, it doesn't really matter.
Bush himself is not in charge; he's just the front man for
other interests. I don't know if he'll serve a second term
in office, but even if he doesn't, those other interests will
be back with another front man.

4. You're right
Bush is just the current and temporary front man for a very dangerous movement. And it's a movement based on hoarding wealth and power regardless of the consequences for others. Maybe even because of the consequences for others.

It scares the piss out of me that there are people that greedy positions of status, wealth and authority.
