...to run against the president in the middle of a war!!!!!!

And Eisenhower (R) against Truman in 1952 during the Korean War??

Poster idea?: republican treason goes back to 1944 and 1952

BETTER idea:

...statement by well-known republican (talk-show host, whatever) that to run against the president during war is treason

..and then list 1944 and 1952 with pictures of R candidate and what war it was (for all those a-historical Americans)

and then a really nasty-nice voice-over 'Really....?'

1. Who said that?
Wow. That is remarkable that people would honestly believe that participating in the democratic process is "treason."

10. I've heard this on several right-wing talk shows
I listen in 40 second bursts every 10 or so minutes on the drive home.

2. Correction: Truman did not run for reelection in 1952.
That race was between Adlai Stevenson and Dwight Eisnehower...

3. Since the Republicans want America to be at war always
then it would be reasonable to conclude that they want power
permanently, and want it to be considered treasonous to question
that power configuration.

4. Actually . . .
I believe that Wilkie ran against Roosevelt in 1940, prior to our entry into the war. The issue at that time was that Roosevelt was the first President to seek a 3rd term.

7. You can substitute
Gen. George McClellan who ran against Lincoln in 1864 for the 1952 election.
