Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 07:27 PM by G_j
I've been following this for a while and receive heartbreaking, in the field updates from the Buffalo Field Campaign www.wildrockies.org/buffalo/index.html ------------------------- more: www.woptura.com/rescue.html www.wildrockies.org/buffalo/press0203/030403.html www.wildrockies.org/Talus/Bison/bison.html
I've never seen this covered in the national media before.
please check it out. The cattle interests are getting the government to slaughter these beautiful animals. :-(

I heard about this story a while ago from an Indian friend who worked there. After they slaughter them they won't give any of the meat or hides to the Indians either.
What's that thing about history repeating itself? :eyes:

In Montana any bear that has interaction with humans is destroyed because it is regarded as a bad bear. I could go on and on about how our country treats wildlife when it isn't in the interests of the almighty dollar. Yes, bears are dangerous, but they don't want to spend the money for a solution.

those ranchers are probably grazing on BLM land which is rented at below market rates. Their damned prarie roaches degrade OUR land, especially watersheds, and then they expect tax dollars to preserve their herds from the competition and disease that wildlife may pose. Not just buffalo, prarie dogs are erradicated and predators are destroyed out of hand on our tax dollars. Now I'm not sure about this but I've heard that free range cattle produce only 3% of the beef consumed in this country. Not a good deal.I'm really sick of this "romance of the west" nonsense. Anyone out there famaliar with the Buffalo Commons concept?

Brucellosis which is the reason ranchers claim their livestock is in danger, was first transferred to the Bison by these very livestock. There is not one documented case of a Buffalo infecting cattle with Brucellosis in the wild.
