Small change to the GD rules, regarding Democratic candidates. |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 10:45 AM by Skinner
Now that the primary season is winding down, and since many topics that merely mention the the primary candidates are not really about the primary or the primary candidates, we are instituting the following rule change.
Instead of this:
"7. Discussion topics that mention any or all of the Democratic presidential primary candidates are not permitted in the General Discussion forum, and instead must be posted in the General Discussion: 2004 Primary forum."
The rule now says this:
"7. Discussion topics about the Democratic presidential primary are not permitted in the General Discussion forum, and instead must be posted in the General Discussion: 2004 Primary forum. Passing references to the Democratic primary candidates are permitted, provided that the overall topic of discussion is not directly related to the presidential primary or the primary candidates."
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in this thread.

that Dennis, Al, John, and John can't be mentioned in GD but Dean, Gep, Clark can be talked about in GD as long as it doesn't mention the primary?

It used to be that the mere mention of a primary candidate in the GD forum would get your thread locked. Now we are allowing passing references to the primary candidates, as long as the overall purpose of the topic is NOT to discuss the primary or the primary candidates.

But we actually have a slightly different idea in mind. We haven't decided, though.

I thought it was nit-picky to lock or move threads just bacause of a mention of a candidate, then watch as those threads got locked in GD04 for being out of place.
This clears it up. I thank you.

I agree. i thought it was a bit too extreme, locking a post because it mentions the word "kerry" even though the topic was something completely different.
i welcome this change

10. Thanks Skinner. It was getting annoying that good posts were locked |
|
because part of the news involved a candidate even when the gist of the post had nada about the campaign. Nice to acknowledge these guys do more than just campaign.

11. Thanks, Skinner. It's understandable how things got so wacky that |
|
some threads were getting locked or moved over a passing reference.
Thanks.

Rename the forum "General Discussion: 2004 Primary" to "General Discussion: 2004 Candidates" and you will not have to lock so many threads. "Primary" is misleading and confusing...a Primary is a specific event - and poor name for this forum (as defined in your rules)
And why do you try to segregate election stuff so much - I think it makes the site harder - not easier - to use...
