Republicans skirting the law. |
|
Below is part of a retarded letter to the editor in today's paper. I am considering a reply to this outlining the ways the current administration has skirted the law - like some of the things with the Iraq war. What things can you think of as examples where the rule of law has not been followed by this administration? Here is the letter:
The legal arm of the law does not seem all that eager to stop this obsession of same-sex marriage from taking place. Since the mayor feels he has free rein in making decisions for everyone instead of looking to the due process of law, perhaps I could offer a suggestion.
Since he supposedly has the power to tell homosexuals they may ''marry'' each other and ignore that stupid law somebody put in place about the one man, one woman marriage, why not wield his power to go the rest of the way?
Release all of the prisoners, fire the police and sheriff's departments, pardon every federal prisoner, give free rein to everyone to do what he or she wants to do. To heck with the legal system. This is the message he seems to be sending to all people. Do what you want to do. It's OK with me.

Come on! From day one, man...interpreting the law, doing EXACTLY what this poster is accusing the mayor of doing. The yet-to-be Bush admin going to the federal courts to settle a states-rights issue in the case of Bush v Gore. There are so many parallels...conveniently ignoring what the actual laws are, and bending and twisting and ultimately relying on the court to interpret a law in such a way as it will benefit their agenda.
Outta the park. That letter writer is just a loon.

4. Well it is all over the US... |

For instance in Dan Quayle's hometown of Huntington, Indiana. If anyone were to research the genealogies of that town I bet they would find most if not all are related within at least by 2nd cousins.

7. The author is just bitching.... |

He's upset that the state AG has only taken this to court to determine whether the law conflicts with the state constitution, rather than, oh, you know, sending in the national guard, dragging the mayor away in chains, and locking up all those gay people for, um.... being alive in CA... forget for a moment that the law doesn't actually alow for any remedies in state-city conflicts other than going to court, this guy's unhappy, the state shuld ignore the laws as written and find a legal arm to use! Ain't hipppocricy fun?

So if you have a child who picks his nose aginst your instructions, you should cut off his nose and his finger to teach him a lesson!
The only reason the the law is being ignored here is because there is a clear, measurable difference between the law and the state Constitution, so much so that several court want to allow hearings. Ignoring a law believed to be unconstitutional on a state OR federal level has a clear history at both local and state levels accross this country. This person needs to let the courts act and shut the hell up. If it turns out that there still is a problem, the marriages can be voided, and the question of gay marriages can be approached from a different angle.
"Oh nooo, other people who aren't exactly like me might think for two seconds that they won't burn in hell for eternity! *wrings hands* Must make their lives more miserable!"

1. Bush* has imprisoned a U.S. citizen and held him without access to an attorney. This is a direct violation of the due process clause of the Constitution. This is the sort of thing tyrants do.
2. Cheney refuses to release the information about his energy task force, even after a court ordered him to do so.
3. Somebody in the White House disclosed the identity of a CIA undercover agent. That is a violation of the law.

Might be to point out that the prohibition of gay marriages is actually what's against the law here. You could list periods in American history where people "broke" the law to do what was Constitutionally correct.
