Protestors in Miami demand that Aristide step down
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/state/8010169.htm

MIAMI - Hundreds of protesters called Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide a murderer and terrorist and demanded Saturday that he step down.

Aristide agreed Saturday to a U.S.-backed peace plan calling for shared power with political opponents, a new prime minister and fresh legislative elections, but the announcement earned him no points with this crowd of opponents.

Aristide "has agreed before to form a consensus government," said Samir Mourra, who heads a coalition of Haitian immigrant groups. "It's a joke; he's never honored one promise."

Mourra serves as president of Patri, a loose coalition of organizations that recently united under the Patri banner to work for Aristide's downfall.

Patri wants "the world community" to step in and help Haiti rebuild its shambling economy and political and judicial systems for a few years, Mourra explained. Then Aristide opponents currently hiding from Aristide "death squads" would arise to campaign for democratically elected office.

"Only then will Haiti be ready for elections," he said.
