It was one of the darkest times of young John Rowland's political life.

It was November 1990, and the 33-year-old Rowland had just lost his first bid for governor in a hard-fought battle against bitter rival Lowell P. Weicker - his first defeat in an otherwise skyrocketing political career.

Suddenly, the phone rang. It was the president of the United States, his friend, George H.W. Bush...

1. Suddenly the phone rang . . .

It was George H.W. Bush, offering political success in exchange for his soul. Rowland signed up eagerly, and although it hurt a little to have his heart and all feelings of compassion forcefully removed from his body, he grit his teeth and took the pain like a man.

Hot tubs, mansions, pomp and circumstance, all was to follow. A dream come true! He was a true card in the Bush house of cards, a full-fledged member of the "family" -- rowdy parties! Ann Coulter wearing a size zero evening gown and breathing Chardonnay fumes in your face!!! Oh, it could make even a strong bodybuilder giddy -- that stench of power coagulating.

But alas, it was not to be. Born too late to enjoy a lifetime of Republican corruption, Rowland's career is toppling along with the careers of the rest of the hypocrites. They have created a modern day Babylon, and it will fall before the poor CON from CONN gets his fair share.

It's a sad, clammy tale.
