Well, she mentioned JANKLOW, but here's what I sent to: [e-mail] ::

For whatever unfathomable reason, my local paper chose to run your column, titled by a headline writer, "From Justin and Janet to Clinton and Kerry, insincere apologies abound".

It was the reference to 2 Democrats that led me to skim it, not the umteenth blathering about Janet and Justin.

Sure enough, your profundity could only lead you to find two DEMOCRATS as examples of "insincere apologies."

How about some apologies that have never been tendered at all, such as Shrub's for (a partial listing):

*Item - 500 American dead and thousands wounded over a cartel "war". Not to mention "disappearing" all photos and reporting of the returning flag-draped coffins, no Shrub attendance at their funerals, and all.

*Item - the pillaging of our treasury and social resources for generations to come.

*Item - cynically using fundamentalist religion as a cover for unconscionable policies.

You get the point. There is no dearth of wingnut junk in my local paper. I'll ask them to stop looking so far afield to provide more. Regards.

These Republicans are so worried about sex and breats and penises. Everyone has to apologize for SEX, but apologizing for starting a totally bogus war, raping the American taxpayer and the Iraqi citizen at the same time, and killing thousands, well, that would be unpatriotic.

I think the whole column was just an excuse for that one catty joke about Janet being "surgically enhanced."

Don't you understand? The Republican Party is God's Chosen People -- any actions on their part that may seem needing of apology are being done for a greater good, and therefore are blessed by God and do not require apology.

Not to prolong this, since it's pointless, but I *did* say I "skimmed" your column, and even so *did* notice the dropping-in of a Repug for effect. The topic was trite, the CLINTON bashing continues even with LENO and LETTERMAN after, lo, these many years, but what really stood out was how you had to really REACH to select gratuitously KERRY in your catalog. Also, it was an eclectic selection of "offenders".

If you had been piqued to respond to my points about the illegal war and our dead, this exchange might have approached meaningfulness.

Please don't take time away from your busy creativity to respond. I *did* forward my original letter to my local paper, btw.

Not piqued, just busy. I will say, however, I that I agree with you 100 percent about this pointless war in Iraq, the hundreds of dead and thousands of maimed American soldiers for, literally, nothing. Here in Norfolk, home of the world's largest Navy base, we see more than our share of grieving servicemen's families.

Perhaps one day Bush will apologize for this senseless war, and to these soldiers, Marines and their families. But I'm not holding my breath.
