Must see movie: The Battle of Algiers |
|
Phenomenal work. Made in 1966 is was banned in France. I've never seen a movie in the West that was so candid about the true nature of colonialialism, terrorism and revolution. Even with a military victory over the terrorist network opposing them the French occupiers were booted by a mass uprising.
A review of the movie states that the Pentagon has taken an interest in the movie lately in regards to Iraq.

1. This is perhaps my favorite movie. I first saw it about 1975-76 at UCSB |

in a film class. Done by Alexander Pontecorvo (hope I spelled that right) it appears to use newsreel photos extensively yet not a foot was actually used. A classic study in terrorism. A great flick.

it was available in the US. What an awesome movie for the classroom.
What blows me away is how the French took out every terrorist "cell" and it didn't do any good. The people rose up and booted them.
Is this what's in store for us in Iraq?
