Poll question: Repukes call us the anti-business party... |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-22-04 02:11 PM by HypnoToad
So what should we call them in return that'll open up enough eyes? Dem candidates for any elected position, are you lurking and reading? (I like choices #2 and #5) (another person in the lounge brought up the Boy Scouts and how her newly wedded hubby had worked long hours for crap pay. She said they were anti-family... so that begat this.)

3. I can't imagine that any thinking person would take that seriously |
|
Both Democratic and Republican parties have consistently put the interests of business first.
The only candidates who have proposed any measures that could be called not supportive of business interests are considered unelectable.

5. Then why do we take the time to vote? |
|
I had a long, tedious message. Decided to replace all that with this:
We're a sham of a democracy; rather we are a plutocracy or oligarchy. By calling ourselves a democracy, we become a hypocracy.
Let the wealthy shift the tax burden from themselves onto the middle class. And at the same time watch them dismantle the middle class... Eventually, their greed will kill them too. Who'll be left to say "I told you so, you filthy inhuman bastards!"?
I'm now reconsidering my anger toward the NB_ lot and even the Green party folk. Maybe they do have a point after all. If a repuke or "electable dem" won't make a damn bit of difference for the common people... then why do we bother when it is a waste of time?

7. I think it is a question of faith for some, and comfort for others |
|
Some people have a strong belief in the theory that there is a causal relationship between which candidate gets the most votes and who takes office after the election, others listen to skilled speakers and hear what they want to hear. An excellent example of this occurred recently when a candidate was asked his opinion of same-sex marriage.
Within hours, there was lively debate from people on both sides of the question, both arguing that the candidate was definitely on THEIR side, and others arguing that the candidate was definitely AGAINST their side, all using the same block of transcript to back up their assertion!
What the candidate actually had done was deliver an expertly crafted "answer" that contained language that would "resonate" with people on opposite sides of the issue, while avoiding committing himself to one or the other, a luxury he will not be afforded when the question comes to a vote. "yea" or "nay" is not a very good showcase for shrewd minds and glib tongues.
Still others engage in magical thinking, for instance, if Candidate X says "Elect me and we will attack Finland," you will see some of his fans argue that "he is just saying that to get elected, he doesn't really want to attack Finland."
In my opinion, the bottom line is: if voting makes you feel good, voting your conscience will make you feel better.

Most Americas have a distrust for corporations, so its not like that is going to hurt us.

6. There are a number of possible answers to the anti-business charge |
|
- Democrats are in favor of companies which will rebuild our economy and create jobs while respecting the workers and the environment. We are against having our government dominated by the old, 20th-century extractive industries which seek only to preserve their profits as their archaic business model collapses.
- Democrats are in favor of innovative, entrepreneurial businesses of all sort, and are eager to develop new forms of government-business partnership in order to stimulate the growth of fledgling industries.
- Democrats will always support businesses which support the American people and the American dream of a better life. They are opposed to businesses which have no loyalty to America or which see the American people as a resource to be exploited, blackmailed, and oppressed.

history shows us we are the party of business successes. History shows them the enemies . Look at economies when each Pres was in office. Reagan bust. Bush bust. Bush 2 bust.
