The end of Bush/Cheney: The coming indictments of Libby & Hannah

The War Party's Waterloo
Get out the dip and chips, pull up a chair – and let the show trial begin!

by Justin Raimondo

The top two stories on yesterday's front page heralded an event long anticipated in my various columns on the subject: the investigation into the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame – which may soon be dubbed Scooter-gate – is about to morph into a scandal that could bring down the roof on this administration, and strike a knock-out blow to the War Party. .

Federal prosecutors are hot on the trail of a series of crimes that may involve more than just the two primary suspects first identified by UPI's Richard Sale – Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the Vice President's chief of staff, and John Hannah, the VP's Middle East policy wonk. As the Antiwar.com staff got ready to put up Tuesday's front page, Matt Drudge had a lead-in to the story that read:

"Prosecutors conduct series of meetings described as 'tense, combative'... Armed with handwritten White House notes, detailed cell phone logs, e-mails between presidential aides and reporters, prosecutors demand explanations of conversations... Developing..."

Presidential aides? Libby is officially an Assistant to the President, but the use of the plural is … intriguing. Just how many neocons nested in the very heart of our government are going to be frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs? I sure hope they show it on television!

-snip-

Where can we invest in popcorn companies!!?? The next 3 weeks will be Bush's worst nightmare. Besides this, Sgt. Pickle reports on the Repub stealing of 5,000 computer files on the Hill on March 5 and I think the Senate reports soon on the WMD lies and chicanery by Cheney.

Get ready for Bush/Guiliani '04

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

2. I hope you're right.
But I've been disappointed before. If Cheney were to become such a liability that he was dropped from the ticket, Bush would be guaranteed to lose in Nov. Nothing could save him. That is what you are suggesting, IMO.

5. would dropping Cheney necessarily kill Bush's election chances?
It wouldn't look good, but I can see losing deadweight as being spun as "presidential" and decisive. Once gone, Cheney could be nailed for all the ideological crap and enough codependent voters might buy it to put Bush back in the game. Just being negative, here...

7. You've hit upon a disturbing possibility
What if?

The Plame-gate thing results in Scooter and a few otehrs being "frog-marched out of the VPs office? Cheney gets a rap by association and Dubya dumps Cheney?

Bush then goes on TV and says that the evil Dick purposely mislead him and abused the office and Dubya says that dumping him is proof that he is restoring dignity to the WH. In doing so, he dumps the bad intelligence in Cheney's lap, blames him for instigating the invasion and then....the kicker...

Dubya apologizes to the American people and asks their understanding and forgivness.....after all, it was evil Dick who is responsible.

4. "frog marched"?
I think they mean "freedom marched".

(y'know, technically that's an ethnic joke)

8. If Cheney goes down, Bush goes with him
Cheney is the personification of the tail wagging the dog. Some say Rove is Bush's brain but I think it's Cheney, Rove is more like Bush's image consultant. Cheney runs things and he's not going down without a fight. It would be a great day when that usurper is brought to justice. Whether Bush knew or not, he would be ruined if Cheney were subpoenaed or (oh please God) indicted.

10. Cheney might not care, though...he can retire VERY comfortably on his
Halliburton residuals and conceivably could return there as CEO again,
to cash in on all the no-bid contracts given to them in Iraq (with no help from Cheney, of course :eyes:)

Maybe his megalomania would trump that option, however...it's hard to know which of power or wealth is the greater motivation to people like him. Of course, both are better than either one alone from his viewpoint.
:grr:
