The Nader Effect 2004
I think this time Nader will sap votes away from Bush...not the Democrats...

In 2000, many Dems were not so crazy about Al Gore...so Nader got the folks that were wavering.

I think those that voted for Nader in 2000 will vote Kerry this time...

The 2004 NADER voters will be dissatisfied Republicans who can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry...

Too bad the GOP can't see this...

1. Wouldn't that be a donkey kick in the their heads
But if Nader goes anyhere near the Republicans, he'll be as finished as Al Sharpton is.

2. Did I oversleep again?
I missed the news that Kerry is the nominee for the Democratic party.

In any event, I don't think Repubs will be voting for Nader. They'll just stay home...same result unless GOP Bush/Cheney starts subsidizing his campaign. As for the Dems, 2000 is still too fresh and wounds are being re-opened with the oncoming machine...they'll vote the for the local dog catcher before Bush.

I'm hoping the GOP Bush/Cheney DOES throw money Nader's way. *guns cocked at feet*

3. re: the nader effect
with all due respect, i really don't see nader pulling much support away from the GOP.

he's way too progressive for their tastes.

i think that if he takes votes from anywhere, unfortunately it's going to be from the democrats. i'm not happy about that fact, but i think that's how it will play out.

8. Kerry v. Gore
I don't sense the level of discomfort with Kerry that I did with Gore...Dems weren't crazy about a Gore Presidency...but voting Bush seemed like too far a swing. So Nader was their man.

I think Kerry is more likely (than Gore was) to grab some votes from the GOP. The GOP is having a hard time criticizing Kerry's military record. I have seem numerous posts at FreeRep recently to the effect "Kerry was in VietNam?" - People who might otherwise be quick to criticize are giving Kerry another look...

I think that the Nader message will resonate well with Conservatives who are not happy with Bush.

7. Pigs, flying?
Republicans aren't going to suddenly vote for someone campaigning to the left of the Democratic Party. For every Republican crossover vote, there will be ten Democrats. The net result? Nader makes Bush's reelection easier.

9. You, me, and kentuck think so
I see a few posts that mention this. In the end, Nader is an alternative for the incumbent, not so much for the challenger. You see Nader and the challenger both want change.

10. I think that the presence of Nader on the ballot
will scare the living piss out of every ABB Dem in the country and result in the biggest Dem turnout in history, and the biggest Dem win since FDR.

11. Great Point! Nader motivates!!!
Yes - there are alot of DEMS who won't vote 3rd party this time. The DNC should capitalize on this "vibe" and try to renew that sense of frustration that we all felt after 2000...It will drive people to the polls!!!
