Again? Been reading here at Club DU that the prices of gas are not coming back down. I read all different kinds of projections. $3.00+ a gal by summer. Peak Oil and all. Anyone want to weigh in on the spanking at the pump.

8. Not all they're cracked up to be
I read an article on those electric hybrids where they're getting lots of complaints from customers who aren't getting anywhere near the promised milage.

10. Kind of depends
My wife and I don't drive much - many of our drives are just a mile or two - two little time for the Prius's efficiencies to really "kick in" so our Seattle driving (many hills too) tends to be in the mid 40's for mpg. But if we go on a long drive, the mileages tends to go up. We did a drive from Seattle to Jackson, Wy last year (2500 miles round trip) and we averaged over 50 mpg for the entire trip even though most of the trip was above 5000 feet and at times we were crusing 75mph+ on the interstates in Idaho.

2. it was pretty low in Jersey
for the longest time we had prices of 1.60-1.70, now it's creeping into the 1.85-1.90 range. Just skimming through the outskirts of NY I'm seeing 2.05 and 2.12

hmmm, Clinton's penis must be at fault.

5. Hey, the invasion of Iraq for OIL is going to lower prices at the pump!
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 02:52 PM by Zinfandel
That was justified by many greedy people I've talked to...but of course the Oil Companies don't share the same ideas or give a shit about anything but profits...fuck what's fair, fuck the environment, fuck illegally invading another country and stealing it's resources (OIL), fuck paying taxes, just give Oil companies more tax breaks and more of our taxes in subsidies for "exploration" (corporate welfare).

And BushCo agrees.

7. Last time I did ...
... several people said to quit whining!

What's strange is that the price varies from one end of town to the other. Then it jumps up 10¢-15¢ overnight! If it does go down (after the weekend) it's only 1¢-2¢.

I've stopped paying cash for gas. I'll put in a few bucks and charge it — they have to pay $1-$2 to the credit card companies — so they don't make as much profit from me.

11. And then there is heating oil
As of tomorrow, I've spent over $1100 on heating oil since mid-December. And that's just keeping the heat at 69 degrees.

My car's gas mileage is the least of my worries. Dh and I invested in tandem bikes last year and had them set up so that the kids can ride on the back. If gas gets too high, we'll be okay.

Heating oil is another problem entirely.
