1. there's no way a "free speech zone" can be done if there's over 1 million
protesting the NYC Convention.

7. I think the question was
what are they going to do to secure the Democratic convention? So far we've heard that the National Guard might be brought in to protect the wingnuts from terra, but nothing with regards to how the Democratic party will be protected.

Of course there should be protests at the Dem convention. If we are lucky the "colorful" folks on the right will show up, waving bibles and burning the constitution to horrify the moderates. Heh heh...I think I've just hatched a plan folks...

3. That'd be impressive
IT would be interesting to see how it would play out--the downside is that such events tend to draw the more colorful and photogenic on the left. Too much focus on the colorful makes it easy for President Bush's supporters to claim that his opposition is a bunch of flakes and wierdos and hippies. This is a game they've played back to the Vietnam days; the camara loves some guy dresse in funky clothes foaming at the mouth and it is bored with ranks and ranks of pretty normal looking people expressing their frustration with the president in a calm and rational way.

Still there's little one can do to stop this, I suppose, and it's better to rally than not to rally.

8. flakes and wierdos and hippies......
Hey!, I kinda resemble that remark. I'll be there, but I'll try to keep the foaming to a minimum. The media will always try to spin everything in smirky's favor. Fuck them!

5. "I don't care what you think"
Edited on Mon Feb-23-04 03:21 PM by 4morewars
That's what bush* said after milions of us protested the impending Iraq invasion last year.

Here's a quote from the above article:

"For all this, the Republicans said they were not much concerned."

I'm beginning to think they just don't give a shit !!

6. Human wall.
Keep them from their own convention.

No violence. Just resistance.

10. if you mean physically block access to the convention..
that would be a mistake...and at least as much a violation of rights as picketing outside an abortion facility.

Yes, it would be illegal. But it would also be a good cause. Blocking a fascist propaganda fest is not the same as blocking medical treatment.

It would be more like blocking white people from eating at the whites only diner by having a big sit-in.

Civil disobedience.

14. I think the Republicans have made an error in judgement
Did they really think that New Yorkers would support Bush because he fucked up so badly on 911 that our city was attacked? What the hell were they thinking? Perhaps they should hold their convention is a city their negligence/complicity DIDN'T get destroyed?
