It's one thing to be anti-gay, and the Republicans do this all the time - usually by stealthier means.

It's another thing to make amending the Constitution to deprive people of equal rights the centerpiece of your campaign - and perhaps DeLay realizes this.

It's VERY hard to amend the Constitution, and perhaps DeLay doesn't want to be on the side of a loser.

Supporting the current amendment (which would ban both gay marriage and "the legal incidents thereof" - ie, it would probably ban gay civil unions as well) also exposes the "compassionate conservatism" of the right-wing for what it always was - a big LIE.

So it's not surprising that Republicans are jumping from BushRove's sinking ship.
