Darlene Blanchard, a member of Parkway Christian Fellowship, took her 8-year-old daughter, Shannon, to the movie, which is rated R for extreme violence.

Shannon, who said she liked the movie better than "Finding Nemo," turned away from the screen during the brutal scourging of Jesus.

"She handled it better than I thought," her mother said. "She cried a lot, and I cried a lot."

The movie was worth seeing, even for children, despite the violence, she said.

"It was beautiful and horrible at the same time."

1. No way
I've got a child that age, and wouldn't dream of exposing her to such violence.

5. Welcome to DU ...
What makes "The Passion" violence different from other movie violence? It is still a movie, it is still fiction.

I don't get your point.

3. The same type who will bitch about other movies being too violent
The same type that will tell you what music is appropriate, what video games are appropriate, and who should marry who.

4. The same type of Mother ...
who would kill her children based on some ridiculous religious beliefs.

6. And if everything about this movie
were the same except it was about some other person than Jesus, this movie would be rated NC17.
