A friend sent me an e-mail saying; "An unstated aspect of the proposed bill that Bush will send to Congress will outlaw all divorce and close down all of the open-door and drive-through 24 hour wedding chapels in America. The Governor of Nevada, speaking from in front of such a chapel in Los Vegas said that he would be concerned about this aspect considerating "bling-bling - cha-ching" factors of the casino entertainment industry which would certainly be adversely affected. "Without these chapels," he went on to say, "polygamy might go on the rise again as sequential marriages go on the decline." (Pawn shop owners throughout Nevada expressed their concerns, fearing they will have to gear up for big clearance sales as they see the recycling of gold rings and white wedding gowns headed for steep declines.)"
Can anyone confirm this? Teresa

What better way to punish 2 people (who obviously made a mutual mistake), then to deny their right to divorce.
If you ask me, denying the right to divorce WILL produce an increase in poligamy. People who are denied a divorce are still going to leave, and stil going to find their next loves, and may even get married again.
This whole marriage in the constitution thing is way out of control.

5. Constitution: ALL people equal! |
|
Agree... What has marriage to do with constitution...
Constitution should resolve all matters between an individual and the state/nation.
It should state the basic rights and values which are the same for every individual who wishes to be part of that nation!
Marriage is most importantly between 2 people... And only secondarily between the couple and the state mostly because of issues like Inheritance, Taxes, Children, not because of moral values!!
Constitution and Law should affect every individual and treat all of them equal. It's not the puropse of the Constitution/Law to judge if it's right that Man loves Woman or Man loves Man...
It's their PRIME DIRECTIVE to treat all people equally.

3. Not true from the amendment texts I have read |
|
The FMA reads:
Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution or the constitution of any State, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups.
Nothing to do with divorce, drive through marriage, or adultery. Everything to do with denying common law marriage, denying same sex marriage, denying any rights to these types of couples.

4. This may be an example of "satire" |
|
That is, it's not true.
Quite amusing, though!
