There are actually Gay Republicans? |
|
...Why? How? Huh? The Log Cabin Republicans, a gay GOP group, worried that Bush risks alienating the 1 million gays and lesbians who voted for him in 2000 by pushing for the constitutional amendment.
“We believe that this is a move to start a culture war, fueled and pushed by the radical right, that will end up in George Bush’s defeat, and defeat for a lot of good Republicans who are with us on equality,” Mark Mead, the group’s political director, said in an interview with AP Radio. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4360783/

The SOB slapped my face, that's just a little stronger than "alienated". He said I don't count, I'm second class, and that my religion wasn't valid. I got over being Republican during the Regan years - and that had more to do with fiscally stupid policies and the realization that OxyRush and the rest of that crew really weren't saying anything, they were just spewing hate.

I just cannot believe that any Gay person would embrace a party that is so hostile to their rights and would single them out and deny them rights that everybody else gets.

while beating their "I'm against gay marriage but for civil unions" drums. it's hypocrisy, and like the Repugs, the Dems are all too willing to accept it.

10. Why is that so surprising? |
|
You find it surprising that some people actually are interested in other aspects of life other than their sexuality? Is that all gay people are supposed to care about?
Seems like a rather insulting assumption to me.

...why the assumption that that would be the number one reason for a person to choose a particular party or candidate? Doesn't it occur to you that some gay people can actually believe in most points of the republican party and disagree with most points of the democratic party and make a decision based on those reasons?
Why should "gayness" be the deciding factor?

19. I get your analogy, but I don't think it applies |
|
I don't think being gay or straight is like being for or against school vouchers. It's the essence of one's being - and the republicans want to use that to make you a 2nd class citizen. Hey whatever to each his own, it just strikes me as odd that's all.

23. Maybe I am missing something |
|
I am heterosexual but it is certainly not the essence of who I am...just one part of that make-up. I just assume that this COULD very well be true of others as well. That's why I don't necessarily assume it as an end all be all issue.
I actually know a couple of republicans who are homosexual (well actually, they are one couple). They don't think of their homosexuality as any big deal and they make their decisions based on other matters...simple as that.

what an idiotic response - gayness should be a sufficient deciding factor because the republican party is a veiled hate group. duh.
blackness should be a sufficient deciding factor for joining the kkk because the kkk is an unveiled hate group
lol - i can just imagine: "i know they hate niggers, like me, but i agree with them on everything else, so i can look past it. i'm not going to let that be the deciding factor." - ROFL
wow - the things you see in this group....

24. Oh, if you want to go by that stereotype, perhaps |
|
But unlike your tenuous kkk comparison, the republican party does not exist to hate, like the kkk does. It covers a world of ideas (although how so many become lousy ideas is another question).
In other words, they are not a hate group so I would have to say that your "proof" of my "idiotic response" is, well, idiotic.

i think every hate group that has ever existed would love to have you do their PR - pity only the republicans get you.....
the republican party turned into a veiled hate group in 1964, btw...
simple empirical test... take the biggest hate groups in this country (that you and I will both agree _are_ hate groups). See which way they vote. By the principle "the candidate doesn't fall far from the voter", i call qed.

If you are unable to comprehend the fact that there are homosexuals who actually pay attention to any of the many other issues that exist other than gay issues and agree with republicans on them, that's a sign of just plain stubbornness. And to say that they shouldn't care about any of the rest is just plain presumptious.
If you want to be that way, fine. I prefer not to decide who is the right candidate or party for other people.

way to not answer the simple, convincing empirical test i provided...
and way to put words in my mouth that i never said.....
lol - that's what i'm known for - deciding "who is the right candidate or party for other people"...
gays in the republican party are slated to become darwin award winners.... just like blacks in the republican party... what's his name, Oklahoma football player-turned GOP representative, he finally caught a clue and quit.... at least some people learn eventually....

Your simple test was such a way to try and change the subject of the post anyway which was that some people don't care about the same things you do. Why answer something which has nothing to do with my point. I may as well as countered with questions about math.
Oh, and saying someone is a darwin award winner for their choice of party is certainly indicative of one who has decided what the right party is for someone.
I guess according to your logic, any white or heterosexual who is not a republican is a possible darwin award winner as well.

Republicans have no tolerance. To live in a progressive society you have to be tolerant and expect to be treated that way. Give everyone the dignity that they deserve.

18. I'm Straight and Married for 19 years |
|
And if you want to get married so what It does not diminish my marriage one bit. Nor does it bother me. Why cant people show devout love for one another by celebrating their faith together. The other side wields faith like a club and hides behind the "good book".
Some of my friends work for XODUS magazine they have very strong opinions on this but the underlying thread is its discrimination plain and simple regardless if you flower it up with faith.

20. of course there are gay Repugs |
|
Gays aren't any smarter (or less) than the general population. I know straights who don't have two nickels to rub together and vote Repug. That to me is even more bizarre than a well-to-do gay voting Repug.
Probably those gays buy into the Repug lies about limited government--and think that means the government won't interfere in their lives. Someday they might wake up.
Heck there are a lot of black Repugs too. Idiocy (or maybe self delusion) knows no boundaries.
