Why HANNITY Replaced O'REILLY on My Local Radio Station |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 12:19 PM by UTUSN
My local talk radio station is totally wingnut, from its national programming down to the local owners and on-air talent. The line-up has been 2 hrs local wingnut; 3 hours LIMBOsevic; 2 hours O'REILLY; 2 hours local wingnuts; then 3 hrs "Dr" Laurasevic replaced by HANNITY in the evening when nobody is listening to radio.
In the past week, suddenly HANNITY replaced O'REILLY in the afternoon, who was totally gone. As bad as LIMBOsevic and O'REILLY are, HANNITY is totally UNLISTENable to.
(& please, it's a hold-enemies-closer thing; no why-do-you-torture-yourself-listening-to-these-jerks replies.)
So yesterday I called the station to ask what happened. The receptionist guessed at ratings but said the program director wouldn't be in until this morning, he being the most virulent of the local wingnuts.
So this morning I got right through and asked whether the O'REILLY run had been a trial period, contract expired, or was this an ideological decision to give HANNITY better exposure.
He said that, no, the two-years' contract with O'REILLY's syndicate was up and the company had insisted that renewal would only happen if the station carried O'REILLY live, which is the same slot that LIMBOsevic is live, and that there was NO WAY the local station would bump LIMBOsevic.
With O'REILLY "being the way he is", he is probably behind the syndicate's demand.

Not that I listen to the wing nut stations. I only get weather info before I get pissed and turn them off.

It's probably the same renewal demand from O'REILLY. His ego just wants to compete against LIMBOsevic and win. The wingnuts won't abandon LIMBO, not for an O'REILLY who claims to be an Independent.

8. Hanity is already on 970 AM and now he's coming on 1410 AM |
|
I think he will be on two different stations but at different times.
You would think that with the country so divided that a station might try some "liberal" shows just to get the other side of the spectrum to listen to them. But I think the repubs are counting on the right wing radio to be a political tool for the elections.

11. FRANKEN Said It Needs to Be a Whole Station Thing |
|
That "balancing" on one station or chain wouldn't work, that fans of wingnuts wouldn't leave the radio on or on the same station to listen to FRANKEN after listing to LIMBO or vice versa, that this is why parallel Lib and wingnut networks are needed.

O'Reilley is a Greek tragedy. His lunatic arrogance got him in the door, his lunatic arrogance pushed him out the door. Very funny.
But seriously- you think O'Reilly is easier to listen to than Hannity? I couldn't disagree more. His phony populism just bugs me. Can't listen to him for 2 minutes.
Hannity on the other hand, is hilarious. He can't go two minutes without promoting his book, and his fawning praise of Bush is simply surreal at this point. Bush's approval ratings spiral downwards, and Hannity's praises rises higher and higher. Just a couple of days ago he had a guest that was saying:
'the Democrats are just desperate. They thought they could run on the economy, but the economy is simply booming! Bush is a great man. His Churchillian (I shit you not- lmao!) leadership has steered this country blah blah blah...'
Squealer is a funny little pig.

Inane: empty, insubstantial; lacking significance, meaning or point
thus I dub him:
"Hannity the Inanity"

7. "easier to listen to"? |

As much as I detest the wingnuts, I submit that there is a tier of sheer talent, aside from ideology. There are no words for the contempt I have for LIMBOsevic, somewhat less for O'REILLY. But these two have undeniable communication skills. I can see the parody/satire in LIMBOsevic while detesting his content. It's like with wingnut/fundie Johnny HART: His cartooning talent is clear outside of his occasional propagandizing.
The next group lack the wit or whatever: HANNITY (for me), Oliver NORTH, Gordon LIDDY, and their countless spinoffs.

Limbaugh has the air of parody, though I don't think he's going for that. :P
Hannity is definitely a no-talent Limbaugh immitator, but I think he's actually funny these days. He's like a used car salesman talking up a jalopy with 3 wheels and no seats.

Last week I heard him say that thanks to aWol's tax cuts we had just enjoyed "the longest quarter of economic growth in history".
What a schlepper for Shrub!

6. Looks Like The Jockeying Has Begun |
|
First, appears your local station renegotiated contracts with the various networks and took the best deal...either a kick back on national program sales or other considerations. This is just shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic...and sounds like your "local" station probably is owned by a Clear Channel or Cumulus or other monolith that controls the airwaves.
I find Insanity's show amusing as this is the "raw" Sean...not that what we see on Faux is that appealing...lots of chest pounding, liberal baiting and self promotion. The amazing thing is even the wingnuts can't stand him. Witness the sales of his current "book" and the recent posts in Freeperland just trashing him.
A couple days ago I posted of the upcoming radio/media wars between O'Reilly & Hannity once Rush gets is titties in the legal ringer and becomes a liability. Hate radio is almost in suspended animation as everyone waits to see if the hammer comes down on pillboy and how that effects his credibility. Look to see what happened to Doctor Laura as to Rush's fate...and O'Reilly and Hannity know it. So do Gallagher, Weiener, Ingraham and all the other hate yakers out there. Out there is a big golden ring...being head screetch monkey. With it comes near god-like status in Flying Monkeyland and even greater riches. You get the overnighters at the White House, the best tee times at the pro/ams and merchandising galore. It's heady stuff for these egos that equate their "causes" to their ratings and popularity.
I tune these moran on...and their local clones...to get a gauge of how out of touch these poor excuses are from the rest of this country. For a long time they rode on the anti-establishment (Clinton-hate), then the flag waiving (* loving) phases and the listeners went along...now they're not sure where to go next.
One last thing...something few will note...radio is having a lot of financial troubles right now. Advertising revenues are at all-time lows and listener levels drop as people tune into their CD players, Computers, XM Radios and other toys. The goofy thing is that these local stations do best when they serve the needs of ALL the people in the community: reading the lunch menu, reports of the city council, who won last night's basketball game, do we need a new sewer on Park Street and so on...this was the foundation of local radio for over 50 years that was shot to hell with deregulation. Restoring some of the old ownership controls as well as making it easier for local groups to obtain or challenge licenses would be a great step in both returning radio to the important local function it used to serve, and clense it of these hate mongers.

12. Our local wingnut station switched Savage Weiner and Hannity... |
|
(That should be one of our wingnut stations)
...so now Weiner is live and Hannity is relegated to the midnight slot.
Have no idea what this means, except that now you can call and get on Weiner's show live if you're in Houston.
