Explain the situation in Haiti for an utterly ignorant guy

I know that the Rebels say that the prez rigged the election. Is this true? Are their problems legitimate?

Present me with evidence, for I am, unusually, opinionless (on this issue(because I don't know anything about it))

2. Just for starters: the US has invaded Haiti something like 12 times

over the course of our history, Haiti has mostly been a colony - we occupied the island for years, we owned the country, nearly enslaved the population, and brutally put down any threats to our dominance. Clinton was the last president that sent US troops to Haiti.

I don't know much about the current situation, but I could take a guess...

Check out their program for today. They interviewed the lawyer who represents Haiti's interests in the US about who these rebels are, where they got their arms, and what they represent in terms of who gets to govern that country.

Bush's rejection of any pleas for even temporary sanctuary for refugees was typically ignorant and coldhearted and shameful. These people aren't playing games, Chimp, they're DYING.
