"Christian" columnist in Alabama calls for DEATH for homosexuals & friends
Daily Mountain Eagle Online Edition
From the Copydesk
Susan Sanford
Sodom and Gomorrah revisited

Who would have thought it would happen this early in the game of politics and moral decay.

We now have activist judges, mayors, governors, etc., who go against the will of the great majority of citizens in this nation (forget that it is against the law in most of the nation!) and declare that it is the "right" of homosexual men and women to "marry."

Christians need to come up with some ammunition against this grievous sin, and soon.

Those who do such things, and those who think they are amusing - or innocent - are worthy of death. ... And Christians had better put on the breastplate of righteousness and the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The battle for souls has begun.

Dear Susan Sanford:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law.

As you seem to be really in touch with God's law, perhaps you could help me with a few nagging questions.

For example, when someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

However, I do need some advice from you regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them.

1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev.1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24.
The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Praise the Lord and kill the faggots!

Sincerely,
_____

35. There's plenty of hate in the New Testament
In the Old Testament, it merely says that gays should be killed. In the New Testament, however, it says that gays will be tortured in Hell for eternity.

46. Revelation 21:8 is the verse cited ...
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

Not saying that I believe it says "gays are going to hell," but that's the verse they use to support that stance -- at least in the NT.

56. sexually immoral?
How does that translate as homosexual? I would think sex without love, sex that is non-consentual, sex with children, adultery (which is mentioned throughout the good book) would fall into that category. Kind of a leap of logic to throw gays into that lot.

Besides, Revelations was considered apocryphal (sp?) until several hundred years after the death of Jesus. That was John speaking, not "The Christ".

16. Boycott Alabama
Unless the people of Alabama stand up and officially say that they do not condone this newspaper calling for the MURDER of gays, we should let our money do the talking and organize a boycott of the state of Alabama.

It's one thing to be against gay marriage, and otherwise reasonable people may hold this opinion.

It is quite another thing for a newspaper to publish a column by their Copy Editor calling for the MURDER of homosexuals.

Here's some contact info on the Alabama tourism board:

63. You are right on the money.
I recall a thread on DU awhile back calling for a boycott of Florida because Anita Bryant came out saying some homophobic schlock. Is it just anger making people become so irrational? Do they really not understand the damage they would do if this dumb plan actually worked? 1) they would harm our already dying economy and overwhelmingly hurt the poorest people of the state who work in hospitality and tourism, 2) they would piss off what middle of the roaders there are who may be on the verge of voting "D" with what they will see are lunatics from outside the state blaming all of the citizens here with having the same views as ONE INDIVIDUAL.

Write her. Call her. Demand her head. But attacking the state will only reduce your chances of ever getting compassion here.

Oh, and welcome to DU. :toast:

25. My letter to this witch:
Hi Susan,

We must be related. I have a number of relatives in Alabama who are, also, religiously insane. So much so that we always use the buzz-word "Area-Code 205" to connotate religious insanity. Now, lest I be called a cad, I - too - am from Alabama. I was born in Mobile. I got the other insanities, especially after my 250 combat missions in Vietnam (where was Bu$h?).

I believe in a god. In fact, I think my god blesses gay marriages (I'm straight, BTW). Christ says not one thing about gays. JC himself hung around with men. His sexuality (there was a Biblical human side to Jesus) is ambiguous.

Religiously, you certainly talk the talk. Do you, indeed, walk the walk? So many of your political icons fail the test. Sorry dear.

Interesting, how it is assume what or how the will is of the "great majority of citizens in this nation" think. I'm inclined to believe that the fundies are not the majority, just loud mouthed. If Ms. Sanford is accidently on purpose forgetful, I'd like to point out that mayors, governors and some judges are elected to represent the will of the people.

So, what percentage of our population is fundie?

Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 07:58 AM by kayell
I urge others to do the same. I am not very knowledgable about what would get the fibbies attention, so if you are up on that, PLEASE write them. Ironically, I used their Tips submission site here: https://tips.fbi.gov/

ADDED: after a bit more thought, one thing that will get the FBIs attention is shear volume of complaints, so, please, please let them know about this. I am very concerned that someone (maybe a quite a few people) will be murdered because of this article.

My letter:
I am very concerned that the author and publisher of the article that is linked here http://www2.mountaineagle.com/22081.html are inciting violent attacks on American citizens.

snip

" Christians need to come up with some ammunition against this grievous sin, and soon. As it stands now, our heads are, as it were, spinning with all the degrading developments that have taken place in the past few weeks."

snip

""Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:32.

That also seems crystal clear. Those who do such things, and those who think they are amusing - or innocent - are worthy of death."

snip

I don't believe that this is just over the top rhetoric, but a clear call for violence against American citizens. Please investigate the author, Susan Sanford, and publisher of the linked article.

newspaper, what ever happened to the new "indecency" standards. Its obvious they do not apply to the insane rightwing. How many times have we had to suffer their traitorous statements and calls for us to be murdered. Free speech ends when you use it for incitement and rallying others to kill their fellow citizens. I hope a jail cell awaits this piece of "human" shit.

48. The death being talked about...
>"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:32.

... is spiritual death, not physical death. In other words, those who are being referred to will die a spiritual death eternally apart from G-d.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

51. Have you read the article???
That may be the out the author will try to use, but the article is extremely clearly a call for ACTUAL, REAL, violence against gays and their supporters.
-----------------------------------------
"Christians need to come up with some ammunition against this grievous sin, and soon."

"Where will we get this ammunition to fight against "spiritual wickedness in high places"? From the Word of God - the only place that, in the end, will matter.

""And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." Revelation 20:12"

"The Israelites were commanded as part of the law given to Moses and Aaron: "If a man lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13. In the beginning, those who were found guilty of such a sin were simply executed. God's opinion of the act of homosexuality was that it was a sin worthy of death."

""Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:32.

That also seems crystal clear. Those who do such things, and those who think they are amusing - or innocent - are worthy of death."

--------------------------------
Doesn't sound like mere rhetorical flourishes to me. That is a crystal clear call for the authors sort of so-called "Christians" to take up arms and mete out "justice" NOW.

We are living in the closing minutes of a culture war that the American Taliban is winning. 'Might Makes Right' is winning over 'The Rule of Law.'I've decided to post this synopsis in all my thread responses:

Georgie's brain is much worse than you think and he's being used for terrible purposes. Here's a British clinical psychologist's researched analysis of the boy king. He interviewed Georgie's family, friends and such and determined that he was abused as a child and developed an 'authoritarian personality,' the root of fascism! Read it and weep for him and us.

And this personality is being exploited to further the creation of a Hitlerian Theocracy called ‘Dominionism’, which has been going on in this country for the last thirty years. Read it and wonder what the hell we're in for next now that Eugenics is domestic policy and Imperialism is foreign policy.

If you'd like to read the full speech of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia back in the dark ages of January 2002 when he said that 'democracy interferes with the Divine Right of Kings and he's doing something about it,' read this and wonder what century we're living in and just what that Constitution was for, anyway.

How can they get away with it when everyone seems to be pissed off at Georgie and we're supposed to be able to vote the bastard out of our White House? By fixing the electronic voting machines for 'the House.' Read this and decide which country to escape to this fall when Georgie is reinstalled to finish the job he was sent to do-eliminate democracy totally, create a police state, and conquer the world.

LATE BREAKING NEWS-FEB. 26 2004
Right now the Dominionists are introducing legislation to replace 'The People' as the authority in our democracy’s Constitution with ‘God’ in a bill called ‘The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004,’ exactly the opposite of what it really is. The legalities of the Christian Theocracy are being used to destroy our laws as if by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

This is not a test! It is absolutely real and happening right now while the media are busy covering gay marriage and Mel Gibson’s bloody crucifixion porn film, ‘The Passion of the Christ.’

“…on February 11 , 2004 Dominionist leaders in congress made their move; they introduced a bill in both houses called The Constitution Restoration Act of 2004. Among the sponsors of the bill are Rep. Robert Aderholt (Alabama), Rep. Michael Pence (Indiana), Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, Sen. Zell Miller (Georgia), Sen. Sam Brownback (Kansas), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (South Carolina).

The House version is H.R. 3799 and the Senate version is S. 2082. The bill limits the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts to hear cases involving “expressions of religious faith by elected or appointed officials.”

Although the claim by its sponsors appears to be that the intention is to prevent the courts from hearing cases involving the Ten Commandments or a Nativity Scene in a public setting from being reviewed, the law is drawn broadly and expressly includes the acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law by an official in his capacity of executing his office.”

religion is, and always has been, a hoax, a con, a scam, a way to control other people by terroristic threats of eternal torture by fire.

74. My reply.....
Wow.....This article is spreading around the internet like wildfire...and you have validated all of the negative stereotypes that already exist about your state. Way to go! I understand you've been reported to the FBI and tourism boards as well. You must be SO proud of yourself. Its probably the most attention a backward hick writer could ever hope to get.......now to my response:

"My first question is, do these people not read the Bible? Have they forgotten Sodom and Gomorrah? At what point do they think the Lord changed His mind about the sin of homosexuality?"

Most of us have forgotten no divorce, and slavery, no sex aside from procreation...etc...should we embrace them once again? Its a shame those have been forgotten as well.

"That also seems crystal clear. Those who do such things, and those who think they are amusing - or innocent - are worthy of death."

That kind of flies in the face of the Ten Commandments doesn't it?

Seems like if anyone has forgotten the important parts of the bible it is YOU.

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:5-6)

In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus praised the morality of a hated foreigner over his own countrymen. (Luke 10:30-37.)

Oh yeah, and lets don't forget: "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (John 8:7; Matthew 7:1,2.)

Though Shalt NOT kill? Does that ring a bell?

I'll stick with living by the word of Jesus and the Ten Commandments before I follow your brutal and uncivilized advice.

"And Christians had better put on the breastplate of (fear) and the shield of (hate) , the helmet of (intolerance) and the sword of the (violence),"

I feel pity for you. But the gays forgive you for you for being a bigot. And I'm sure the Lord will too.

Again...review the ten commandments, before calling for the the death of gays and their supporters. And use the Bible to spread love, not hate. You think its in God's plan for you to use the Bible to justify homicide? Or to spread a message of love and compassion? Churches in Alabama must be VERY different from those elsewhere. Readers of this article were probably pushed further from the church...not brought closer.

Just in case they don't keep a dictionary around your 'newspaper'....

www.dictionary.com

Bigot

\Big"ot\, n. 1. A hypocrite; esp., a superstitious hypocrite.

2. A person who regards his own faith and views in matters of religion as unquestionably right, and any belief or opinion opposed to or differing from them as unreasonable or wicked. In an extended sense, a person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals; one obstinately and blindly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.

Good luck to you. And may God have mercy on your soul.

Cannikin

77. My email to Ms. Sanford
Given your recent article in which you use Biblical passages to defend your indefensable
hatred, bigotry and disrespect for the freedom of fellow citizens to do as they see fit
in their personal lives, it is relevant for me to ask you if you are a fan of professional football.
Why football you ask? Well, the literal interpretations of the Bible you use to defend your attacks
on the freedom of fellow citizens can also be used to skewer plenty of other things that most flaming
fundamentalists such as yourself convienently forget.
So, my question is: Have you not read the whole Bible, Ms. Sanford? If you had and had also
interpreted everything literally, you would notice that Exodus 31:14 says that men who work on Sundays,
such as NFL PLAYERS shall surely be put to death, just as those horrible homosexuals in Leviticus 20:13.
Therefore, professional football players are on the same level as gays, through the eyes of literal Biblical
interpretation
Just some observations.
