even if bush is ousted in november
any democratic president will be stumped all the way by the repuke majority so my question is: does anyone think that the republics in congress and the house are automatically associated with bush and the loathing is transferred to them? We really need the majority now.
all comments appreciated
thank

1. The Senate is up for grabs IMHO
What I am hearing on this board is a lot of people are upset with Bush and a lot of "new voters" will be showing up to vote against him. Again IMHO, Bush could drag down a couple Repug Senators with him.

2. Probably some will survive a Bush loss and --
-- some won't. I think the Democrats are within possible reach of the Senate. Tougher in the House, although things are looking better.

Rove's New York / California strategy won't work. Both stay blue.

Democrats will reclaim Missouri and West Virginia and will win in Ohio, too.

Also New Hampshire. Those four red states turn blue, we hold the others and win back just enough seats in both chambers to keep it tight.

4. It won't be easy at all to take the Senate.

Of 34 seats up for grabs, 19 are currently held by Democrats. This means we need to win 20 out of 34 to get a 50/50 split, which, if we also hold the White House, would be sufficient. But winning that many will not be easy.

8. No, it won't be easy.
But I'm hoping for wins in Alaska, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. In Florida, I think Betty Castor will be our nominee & will hold Graham's seat.

If Bush keeps alienating focus groups and entire nations, we might stand a pretty good chance.

3. We can't do everything in one election.
I hope after the 2006 election, we can get a Democratic majority in the Senate, but I'm not hoping for that after 2004.

Regarding the House, gerrymandering is going to keep it Republican for a long time.

5. I agree re-districting is a big problem, but....
If the courts uphold the current redistricting plans, why can't the Dems do the same thing next year?

I do't pretend to understand exactly how this redistricting thing is supposed to work, but it seems to me all districts should be drawn in a straight line making a grid across the state. No bias, no party manuvering.

Like to see the courts make that happen.

6. So why aren't you guys trying to get someone to run up against
your incumbent Repukes. We once had a majority in both houses. It's time to get some of those seats lost back.

7. Straight Ticket
Since I am in Florida, suffice it to say there won't be any liberal Republicans on the ticket.

I hate being so partisan, but there is just too much at stake, so I plan on voting straight Democratic ticket. I mean, we have a president who wants to amend the Constitution to restrict our freedom. I mean, between amending it to prohibit gay marriage, the amendment against flag burning, amendment defining life as beginning at conception, school prayer amendment...not to mention the Patriot Act and Ashcroft's in)Justice department that wants to dismantle the protections guaranteed to us for over 200 years by the First, Fourth, Fifth, Six and Seventh Amendments.

We need a Democratic president and as many Democrats in Congress and Senate to stop the Republican power-grab and their Rovian plot to turn America into a one-party system. And I have to get Democrats from Florida into Congress because if Bush is reelected, we'll really need as many people standing up for us as possible.

Although, if you have a Republican Senator like Olympia Snowe, she's okay.

9. democracy
only works when people are active in their towns and cities, counties and states, and elect good men and women in the House and senate. The White House is vital at this point in time, but it comes as part of a process, not something separate from it.
