America, 2015....but it's not too late
Today the Department of State Security, formerly known as Homeland Security, arrested over 300 people in what officials describe as a dangerous ring of potential subversives.

“This investigation has been ongoing for several days,” said State Security Director George P. Bush. “We received tips from several patriotic Americans that these subversives were planning an unlawful demonstration against my dad’s administration relating to the wars in Algeria and Yemen, and the placement of electronic Diebold voting machines in all voting precincts in the US. As you know, these types of demonstrations were outlawed with the adoption of Patriot Act IV in 2011.”

Bush went on to say that he felt the subversives would be successfully tried by military tribunal as war criminals. The standard sentence for unlawful intent to demonstrate can carry a maximum of five years in a Federal Re-education and Penalty Rehabilitation facility, or Freeper.

In other news, the US Supreme Court, by a 9-0 decision, upheld the establishment of the cabinet level Department of Religion.

“The intent of the Founding Fathers is clear,” wrote Chief Justice Roy Moore, “that while no law shall be made establishing a state religion, a cabinet level position advising the president of the current state of religion in this country fits perfectly within the framework of the Constitution.”

Solicitor General Jay Sekulow was ecstatic with the high court ruling.

Also today, by a vote of 88-6, the US Senate passed the Social Security Reform act of 2015. President Jeb Bush is expected to sign it from an undisclosed location. Critics say this will eliminate social security benefits as we know it. Proponents say this will help to pass more responsibility for senior citizen and infirmed care from the federal government to private charities.

So…..you still gonna protest your vote with Nader?

2. *shiver*
Some of them will, my friend. They don't care about this country. They care about their hurt feelings that their candidate won't be the nominee.

They'll grow up eventually, now or in Gitmo, one or the other.

That was chilling, only because it was accurate. :scared:

23. I consider this to be a fairly accurate (and depressing)
depiction of the future, unless we act for the greater good and get behind John Kerry right now.

A bruised and bloodied Kerry, going into the general campaign will play right into the Dominionist's hands.

5. It's a not-so-small step to go from labelling all your political
opponents "traitors" (which is a federal crime punishable by death) and the world you described. Conservatives need to be very, very careful about what they advocate. Their zeal for victory at all costs and their desire to totally denigrate their opponents fosters a fascistic climate that can be easily manipulated by Rovian types...

9. I agree
Generalizations and labels, especially negative ones, make it easier for one group of people to dismiss another out of hand. And if you are emotionally detached to a certain group, it is easy to get them labaled as whatever you want them to be, whether it is true or not.

15. I don't know...
and I don't care. Most people (90%+) have been really cool on this site. I don't mind disagreement, or even that he/she doesn't trust me, but it would be courteous to give a reason why. Such a broad generalization like that with no reason why does nothing positive at a site like this, IMHO.

Where did you see the other post similar to the one above, if I may ask?

10. Chilling
but it seems more and more in the realm of possibility.

I recently reread the Handmaid's Tale, such a cautionary tale about the dangers of theocracy. And it seemed even more in the realm of possibility.

We must defeat Bush. We cannot endure 4 more minutes, let alone 4 more years.

16. You forgot that a re-elected Bush will DRAFT MILLIONS of people
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 12:21 PM by Dems Will Win
It was 10 years ago when the young people who had voted for Nader in 2004 received the shock of their lives. On April 1, 2005, George W. Bush asked Congress to re-instate the military draft.

The draft lottery, the first being June 15, 2005, ended up inducting 8 million men over the next 10 years, as well as 800,000 doctors and nurses and the 1 million computer programmers needed to create the ill-fated "Star Wars" missile defense shield.

One private in Uzbekistan, who refused to give his name for fear of reprisals, lamented "How could I have been so wrong? I was only 19 when I voted for Nader and within 8 months I was being inducted into the Army. That was 10 years ago, and 8 stop-loss orders later here I am--still in Uzbekistan! I didn't even know where Uzbekistan was in 2004."

When asked why he voted for Nader, even though he knew Bush and the neo-cons wanted to take over Central Asia, he said "I was just pissed that Dean had lost, and didn't think things through I guess".

We could all write it and come up with ideas. It would sell like hot-cakes I bet and might affect the race!

"The Future History of Planet Bush" ??

22. Are you serious?
I ask because I will have some free time this spring and summer. I have to undergo two oral surgeries and will be sidelined for about 6-8 weeks total. So I'm looking for things to do. I'll need a "collaborator" though.
