O'Reilly Spins Michael Moore on Tax Rates ! |
|
O'Reilly just pulled some big time spin when he showed a clip of Michael Moore on the factor.
He played a clip of Moore on the factor, Bill asked Moore how much Bill should pay in taxes. He says to moore, 50%, Moore says yes, 60%, Moore says yes, 70%, Moore says yes.
Then Bill cut off the video clip and said look at that these liberals, they think I should pay 70% in taxes.
THAT WAS TOTAL SPIN.
Right after the part where Bill cut the clip off Moore said he thinks only Bill O'Reilly should pay 70% in taxes. Moore believes the top rate should be in the 40% to 50% range, and O'Reilly knows that. Yet he cut the clip off right before you see the truth, he used that clip to lie and spin Moores position on taxes.
This was spin to the max, O'Reilly stopped the clip right before Moore says only O'Reilly should pay 70% in taxes. How do I know this, because I saw that show when Moore was on. So I know exactly what he said.
Bill did this on purpose to make people think liberals want everyone to pay 70% in taxes. This is conclusive proof that O'Reilly spins and lies about liberals to make them look bad.
On top of that he claims to have a no spin zone, then he pulls this little edit trick.
If I were Michael Moore I would demand to be on the factor to clarify O'Reilly's lie.

And he creatively "edits" just as much as O'Reilly did, if not more so.

3. But it really upsets him if someone calls him a liar. |
|
That part I can't understand. Of course he lies. He lies and distorts *all* the time. That's what Fox News hired him to do.
His obsessive hatred towards Al Franken for pointing out that simple fact was just weird, you know? I mean... if I were a convicted murderer, and someone said to me, "you are a killer", I wouldn't be angry. It would be a simple statement of fact.
Meh- I suppose the evil "Secularists" made him lie about Moore.

5. No...I saw the clip when it happened |
|
Moore stopped at 70%...then O'reilly said "how bout 80%?"
Moore says "I'll stop at 70%..that's a good number"
so Moore thinks the top rate should be 70%, as it was under the Kennedy boom years..
I happen to agree with him. Tax those rich bastards :)

Moore says "I'll stop at 70%..that's a good number"
After Moore said I'll stop at 70% he said but only for you Bill.
I saw the clip when it happened too. I remember it like it was yesterday, Moore was joking about the 70 percent. We even discussed the issue on my message board.
He was not being serious, he thinks the top rate should be 40 to 50 percent.
He said the top rate of 70% should be only for Bill. That part was a joke, he was being sarcastic.

9. But the way you quote O'Reilly |
|
has him saying the same thing as Moore: "they think I should pay 70% in taxes". If that is what O'Reilly actually said, he's not spinning it (it's actually the "they" that is more doubtful, since it's only Moore who's said that. But with the clip directly before showing just Moore, he can probably get away with it). If Moore is going to say things like that, he should know very well people will use it to their advantage. He's a big boy - he doesn't need to go crying to someone every time people argue against him.

Here is the spin part:
The spin is stopping the tape before Moore says quote "only you should pay that 70% Bill" then using it to imply Moore actually thinks all the wealthy should pay 70% in taxes.
That is the spin.
O'Reilly used part of a taped interview to spin what Moore said, then he stopped it right at the part where Moore says only Bill should pay 70% in taxes.
The impression you get when you see what O'Reilly did is that Moore was serious about wealthy people paying 70% in taxes.
THAT IS A LIE.
Moore was joking, in the next 30 seconds of the taped interview Moore says to O'Reilly:
Only you should pay 70% in taxes Bill.
But O'Reilly stopped the tape before the people could see that part. Then he implied that all the liberals want to take all the wealthy peoples money. He said see that the liberals want to take 70% of everyones money.
THAT IS SPIN, AND A LIE.
What O'Reilly did was take a 10 second clip from a 4 minute interview, then he misrepresented a joke by Moore and made it look like he was serious when he said wealthy people should pay 70% in taxes.
He did this to help Bush in his re-election bid, he wants his viewers to think liberals want to take 70% of all the wealthy peoples income.

11. Well why didn't you say so in the first place? |
|
"He said see that the liberals want to take 70% of everyones money."
Now, if O'Reilly said that, then he has distorted and lied. Why didn't you quote that bit in your original post?

Why didn't you quote that bit in your original post?
I forgot.
If you had watched the factor last night you would know what I am talking about.
The main point is O'Reilly knew Moore was joking when he said the wealthy should pay 70% in taxes. Then he said only O'Reilly should pay 70% in taxes. But O'Reilly stopped the tape before that part.
If FOX ever gets the talking points memo posted from last night I will post the exact quote. I think they update it about 10:00 or so. When they do, I will post exactly what O'Reilly said.
