another 'repub teacher' experience..
Last week my high school freshman son came home and told me that one of his classes was doing a campaign thing, and that he had to research both George Bush and John Kerry, and then go and try to convince a group of seniors(high school seniors cause some of them will be old enough to vote this year) to vote for the candidate he would be assigned to represent. This bothered me a little because I thought they should get to campaign for the candidate of their choice, but he said the teacher was going to randomly choose their candidate.

I was actually ok with that because I figured if he wound up with george we'd go with 'plan b' and I'd ask my fellow DUers for help in phrasing arguments that were bound to drive the listener straight into the arms of the dems. But that's not what happened...

I knew his teacher was a repub because he'd often come home telling me stuff she had said about Bush being a strong leader, but it was never any big thing and we'd just laugh about it. Today though, when it was time to assign the students their candidate, what she did was ask the students to raise their hands if they attended church regularly. (My son actually does go to church quite often cause my mom drags him there, but he didn't raise his hand). The teacher then told the kids who raised their hands that they were republicans, and would be supporting Bush. She told the others that they were the dems and should campaign for Kerry.

My impression of this woman has always been that she's a not very nice idiot(typical repub type) but I was amazed that she would be this goofy. I haven't quite decided how to handle this yet because I know my son will die if I go in and talk to his teacher.....but in my mind this is pretty far over the top.

4. seriously???
This is one teacher that needs to go. If she was one of those little old lady teachers I might cut her some slack, but she's more like early thirties and has a lot of years left to do wome real harm. I'm usually pretty passive, but sometimes the battle needs to be fought.

3. In NYC that teacher would be fired faster than she can single out heathens
That is an absolute OUTRAGE. I have no advice for how to handle it, but my JAW dropped to the FLOOR when I read this. Seriously, in NYC this would be cause for a ruckus, maybe a protest, probably some presidential primary candidates would show up. REALLY.

This teacher needs some re-education.

6. This is a pretty small town..
and right now I'm wishing I lived in New York. I suspect most people here would actually support the teacher, but I'm thinking I'll try my hand at some ruckus rousing and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

There was a woman here who had a similar experience in a small town
I wish I could remember who it was. Her kid was penalized because she took him to a protest in DC.

She was pleasantly surprised to learn that the teacher's supervisor was rational and concerned. It was a good experience for her.

7. Damn Puke Teachers
I had an English teacher last year who gave me a B when I had the points for an A because I challenged him by saying that there weren't any WMD's. Who's laughing now, bitch!

This year at my father's suggestion, I offered him a fully payed round trip to Baghdad to see the "progress" taking place. He tried to come up with something to say, but instead gave a Dick Cheney snarl and walked away in defeat.

8. put the smackdown on her
write the princpal and the head of the school board. explain what happened and that you resent the fact as democrat and a christian that some how your son and his family are not christians in her eyes. then explain how you feel about all this...e-mail your letter and snail mail copies to the teacher and the school board of course let them know that everyone is getting the a copy..don`t worry you will get feedback if you send your opinion in this way, my wife uses it and she gets results

10. Here is what the teacher should have done
"Ok, here are your test results. Now, those of you who got an A, B, or C on the test are Democrats. The rest of you are Bush supporters, because you have to be really fucking stupid to think Bush is a great president"
