Should certain gay repubs be OUTED?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 10:37 AM by mopaul
To clarify, I'm not gay, (but who knows, I might check it out someday), and I'm always amazed at how certain seemingly gay republicans are quite heavily closeted and still harbor ill feelings toward gays as a political group or social class. Witness J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Colson, they got away with being gay all the way to the end, without ever being outed, yet Hoover was one of the most virulent anti-homosexual outers. He used a gay person's closeted status as a weapon of blackmail against them. It's even rumored the the cross dressing Hoover was himself blackmailed for years by the mafia, who alegedly had a 'compromising photo' of Hoover. This may explain why Hoover denied the very existence of the mafia for years.

And his ickiest henchman, Roy Cohn was also a closeted gay man, who repeatedly black mailed and outed homosexuals whenever it suited his political purposes.

Now I want to know about a few contemporary, 'suspect' repubs.
I want to know about all those rumors I heard about Asa Hutchinson, and Lindsay Graham. And of course Matt Drudge, and David Brock come to mind. Gary Bauer, although he's married with children, strikes me as exceedingly gay. I could be wrong about all these men, but I love a good rumor about a blowhard sanctifier.

And what's this I heard about Rush Limbaugh? Couldn't be true right?
He's married, right?

Spreading ugly rumors is a tried and true repub tactic, and they don't even care anymore if the rumor can be proven or not, just that it's out there circulating and doing damage. The repubs themselves tried this tactic on Rep. Barney Frank, who became heroic in my opinion when he flatly confirmed his homosexuality and said, "Now what?" to the fascists. He's a mighty man for standing up and still being there after such an attack.

I may get flamed suggesting that homosexuals be outed, that's a touchy subject, that I'm probably not too qualified to argue, but don't you think it's an effective way to disarm this whole 'homosexuals are evil' bulls---? Just expose a few of these hypocrites and shut down all further use of someones sexual status as an instrument of blackmail and slander.

I frankly don't give a damn who is or isn't gay, and neither do they, and that's the point. Outing a few of these creeps might just take all the wind out of their sails.

p.s......and what about george bush the first? I've always perceived him as extremely effeminate and unmasculine.

4. Seems like this would be a great way to . . .
Shoot ourselves in the foot. This would entirely backfire; conservatives would not buy our rumors unless we had undeniable proof (which I'm assuming we don't have), and moderates would see as hypocrites (which, in fact, is what we would be).

Also, don't bring up the crap about "Well, it's time we Democrats fought back instead of just taking Republican attacks." I'm all for fighting back; but we need to fight back in effective ways. This is not an effective way.

9. Divorce on file as a public record
is not rumor. A public official ought to share his life with his constituents and let them decide to vote for or against. Conservatives aren't "buying" the fact that bush is a deserter because it does not satisfy their agenda. Because conservatives choose to be blind to the truth does not mean such truths should not be publicized.

5. and Marital records!
If you are gonna puff out your chest and proclaim your support for the sanctity of marriage then obviously you have never been divorced, have never committed adultery, have never dallied in homosexuality. This desperate move by bush is just another opportunity to expose christian conservative moral absolutist hypocrisy. Listen real hard when they attempt to say divorce is not a threat to the sanctity of marriage.

6. Alabama man says he slept with Bush on gaurd duty!
Wouldn't that be a funny way to prove he wasn't AWOL. Actually, if someone did say that, maybe he'd finally come clean on where he really was.

Personally, if they are closeted and not trying to mind or interfere in my business, I'd leave them alone. But if they being hypocrites? Hell yeah, the gloves are off, the videos rolling, the polaroids are scanned and posted everywhere.

11. Out the fuckers...every one of them.
By the way, I have a very strong "gaydar" vibe every time I see or hear from Stanley Kurtz of the Hoover Institute, who is on Diane Rheim right now arguing against gay marriage.

My money is he's gay too. OUT!

12. Welcome back mopaul.
In all honesty, as much as I would like the hypocrisy of the right brought to the lime light, outing someone is nothing more than using someones sexuality as a weapon.

When we talk about gay rights here on DU, we are always saying that being gay isn't wrong. But if we were to out someone then the message we are trying to give could be twisted into such a way that they will say we are saying being gay is wrong.

15. i understand your point
and thanks for the kind words. it would be effectively sinking to their level and using their nasty tactics. but if it was done in a subtle way, "Gee senator, this vile hatred you have against homosexuals sure seems strange coming from you", "you're one to call the kettle black", just one good zinger to expose them as liars.

one thing i've learned about pompous blowhards who stand up and spew hatred against sinners, they are always the ones with something embarrassing to hide. Jimmy Swaggart, Newt Gingrich, Dan Burton, Matt Glavin (?), (who was caught propositioning a policeman and masturbating, twice), Bob S&M Livingston, george bush sr., the adulter, J. Edgar Hoover, William Bennet with his gambling and dominatresses, etc.

i just hate two faced people!

19. I agree with you as well.
I also hate two faced people. I have just learnt the lesson about people who hide behind a veil to hide their own prejudice.

I just can't get over the even bigger attacks we would see happening from the right.

A good example is, Bush* announced his support for the bigoted FMA, then just over 24 hours later, we had that woman journalist calling for the slaying of all LGBT folks. If we begin outing them, we risk putting more of us in danger.

Mopaul, I have a hell of a lot of respect for you, my friend, and I respect your words, and your reasonings. I so understand what you and others are saying. I just hope I can get over the fear that is in me, so I can support your words 110%. :)

14. Hypocracy should be outed
If they are gay and do not trumpet the antigay horn then I say let them remain hidden. But if they come out and support the hatred towards gays let them be hoisted by their own petards.

16. No
Either a persons sexual proclivities are a legitimate political discussion or their not. You can't say it is only sex, we shouldn't be talking about it (Clinton) and then turn around and say it is sex, we should be talking about it (potentially gay rebublicans).

17. Hmmmm...
Here in the small south Mississippi town where I live, the Chairman and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Republican Executive Committee are closeted gay men. So is the only other male member of the committee. I have never encountered such bitter, miserable, unhappy people. They despise themselves, each other, and everyone else. But they HATE Democrats passionately. I just don't get it.
