The Howard Stern supension is is a good thing, not bad |
|
And no, it's not because he's vile or vulgar.... It's because I think that Clear Channel just stepped on their you know what’s, big time! I believe they underestimated the power of the demographic of Howard’s listeners. AND I think folks are going to look around and finally see how scary it is to allow one company to consolidate ownership of mass media.
This is a wake up call to hundreds of thousands of citizens who have no understanding of how fascism works.
Average Joe and Mary out there are going to hear that one day Howard’s dissing Dubya, and the next day he's toast.
This is big folks....

1. That's rediculous. Howard is part of my routine. I already was anti-Bush |

now his listeners are just probably going to turn over to some right wing nutbag
I come from New England and you know what happened when they cancelled Opie and Anthony? Jay Severin got a huge new crop of listeners? Do you know who Jay Severin is? He's a professional GOP operative who's a complete fascist hate-monger, and he's very effective, more than Savage.
I'm pissed. I go to school in South Florida. You think it's better to have him silenced 8 months before the election than Blasting him the whole time?

Howard & Rush are really the only irreplaceable national radio talk show types on the air. Who else can you say is at that level? Hannity? Savage? Somebody else?
If Stern is gone, some new schmuck isn't going to get nearly the ratings. They may try to have slick new RW hate mongers take his place, but a lot of Stern listeners will tune them out or go elsewhere. Stern has been on the air for 25 years now building up an audience.

I do think you're right, that CC underestimates Stern's listeners. Hopefully this will come back to take a big chunk out of their butts.

3. looking at it that way, it could be good for Howard too ... |
|
I like Stern, I've been a listener since 1982, but Howard buys into the "what's good for business is good for America" too much (despite being screwed over a number of times by corporate America)

4. Howard's Endorsement Can Win Elections |
|
and Clear Channel just pissed him off. I expect him to escalate his attacks on non-Clear-Channel stations.
He's helped get Pataki and Christie Todd Whitman elected. I hope he can help defeat Bush.

I know at least a dozen people who are going to consider my concerns about the religious right more valid now that their entertainment is being interrupted

11. I wonder how Stern feels about it |
|
And, I wonder if he will speak up and say he feels he is being censored for his rant on shrub. THAT would open some eyes!!
