Thanks Mr. Greenspan -- Maybe Florida will not go Bush

I just saw the front page of the Repug Tampa Tribune. It has 1/3 of it with Alan Greenspan picture. Then it has the LA Times article

"Social Security `Overcommitted'"
http://www.tampatrib.com/News/MGAKRXVE4RD.html

Gee I wonder how many Bush votes in Florida did Alan scare away!!!!

1. If Florida Dems really hammer on this and Medicare
it may make a difference; however, * has already said that the Greenspan SS thing would not apply to those who are retired or nearing retirement.

2. "Just the rest of you poor suckers out there."
They just thumbed their noses at well over 100 million people.

5. It's almost as if they don't give a damn about........
winning the election; it seems that everyday they do something to alienate one segment of society or another.

I'm not sure whether to be happy or scared.

8. I wonder also BDL
Something stinks don't it. Or maybe it IS coming apart. It do seem to be unraveling.

Or they know something we don't, like it won't matter. Thats how they act. Remember 'Smirky' in the SOTU 04, it was like he knew a big joke and he wasn't telling what it was. Thats what I saw anyway.

That is a large demographic here and people are pissed. Now if we can make sure our votes count, Florida will go dem all the way.

4. My freeperish co-worker
My Freeperesque co-worker, who has always been singing the praises of Reagan, is irate over Bush - he hated the immigration amnesty thing and he was absolutely livid about Greenspan's social security comments. He actually said to a fellow Republican co-worker that we may need a Democrat in there to set things straight and was happy that the current leading Democrat is from New England at least...

(Granted, a freeper-ish type in New England can be a bit to the left of a normal freeper)

6. Tax cuts for the rich, paid for by benefit cuts to retirees. Sounds fair.

7. I wonder if Greenspan will be retired
over that remark. Bush wants every to believe we can have his tax cuts for the rich and our cake too.

9. Greenspan can't be retired before his term ends.
The Fed is supposed to be 'independent'. If a President could fire the Fed chief for raising interest rates, e.g., it would take away their independence and force the Fed to make decisions that are politically popular, rather than financially correct.

At least that's the theory.

Of course, Shrub's Dad blames Greenspan for his loss in 92.

12. Exactly, Greenspan spilled the beans
Not sure what got into him, or why it took this long for him to comment on this, but what he did was great!

It spells out an advantage on who to trust with a traditionally Democrat-strong issue. I'M LOVING IT!

14. It's Time Greenspan Was Put Out to Pasture

Given that SS is self-financing... Greenspan's "advice" to cut SS benefits is ludicrous. Granted some measures have to be taken to insure SS's long term solvency... but Greenspan is essentially advocating the budget hole created by Bush's irresponsible tax cuts be further subsidized by SS monies.

The FED chairman should stick to monetary policies and stay out of politics. Greenspan discredits himself and the FED when he let's his true Rightist views come out. It's bad enough his policies of raising interest rates contributed to the latest recession. Now this? I think it's time Greenspan is put out to pasture.

16. Nickles and dimes
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 09:06 PM by camero
They are arguing nickles and dimes when the real problem is the spending of dollars on war. It's a rehash of the welfare argument.
