If Mel beat Saddam the way he beat Jesus

would we be sympathetic to him (Saddam).?

Would we sit there in stone cold silence as we watched violent corporal punishment inflicted on him... Would we come out of the theater visibly upset and angry at what we just witnessed?

I say we would....I say you can take the most vile person on earth and film him being beaten for 2 hours and come out sympathetic towards that Human Being.

Point? .... Put on film the beating of probably the most revered human ever, Jesus, imply strongly that the beatings and punishment were the work of a certain race of people, and then add in a couple of at-a-boys for Romans like Pontius Pilate...Well...ya know what you get... Sympathy, Saddness and most importanly, ANGER!

Mel Gibson knew exactly what he was doing here.

I know that I got real upset watching old newsreels of the Italians beating up Mussolini.

And I remember just how outraged I was when I saw how the Romanian people treated Cheacescu and his wife.

But I think (although I cannot say for sure) that some Christians might suggest that there is a big difference between Saddam, Mussolini, and Cheaucescu on the on hand and Jesus on the other.

They would suggest that the first three were gulity of some of the most barbaric crimes.

But they would say that Jesus was completely and totally innocent.

Speaking only for myself, I tend to be moved toward tears when I see an innocent person beaten.

What I am trying to say is Mel was looking for effect to fuck with the emotions of his Audience and get folks pissed off...and me thinks he found it with brutality....
