What stunt will Bush pull this summer to get sympathy?
1) Cheney illness...new VP like Guiliani

2) Fake assasination attempt

3) Martin Landau as Osama in the capture of Bin Laden

4) Some kind of public display of religiosity

5) Choking on more snack food

Of course he could do something wacky like create jobs or work hard on some important issue but that would be so out of character.

1. 1 and 2, or Laura gets cancer?
I seriously wouldn't put it past him to have Laura get some sort of serious cancer (that will be treated miraculously after he's re-selected). Hey, look what cancer did for Sharon Oswald (sarcasm here).

3. 2 or 3
I think he'll either fake an assassination attempt or dig up Osama.

Hope he does this in the summer because:

a. Everyone is pre-occupied and enjoying the holidays.
b. By the time the election rolls around, people will have gotten over it, and
c. It gives us time to uncover more scandals and forget the "sympathy."

All I feel is that if you guys don't get him out, you're f**ked! Along with the rest of us. It's that serious.

12. Assanation attempt
Cheney and the ones who are really in charge will have Bush assanated, and In a tearfilled ceremony and many campain speaches later we are asked to "Carry on the Legacy of Geroge Bushe's memory" so Cheney gets elected in a sentimental landslide of heartbroken GOP's

13. None of the above. He thinks of himself as a tough guy...
so he's not looking for sympathy, because he doesn't see it buying him any votes.

What he really thinks sells his Ultra-flavored band of White House whackos is an implied ability to protect the nation from the terrorist attacks of evil doers. Those of us with more than half a brain know the chainy-rover-rummy-wolfowits "brain trust" really are hyping nothing more than fear mongering (as a smoke screen for uber-funding the military industrial complex and big oil).

Conspiracy theory? I think they're arranging big terror attack #2 on U.S. soil for around Aug - Sep, so it will be fresh on every voter's mind in Nov. That would also allow daily commander-in-chief operations to interfere with trivial pursuits like domestic issues, political campaigns, or debates. How's that for stealing the election.

Remember, when the American public perceives it has no evil godless terrorist dictators to fear, they're history. But when America has been smacked down, W's tough-talkin' video clips will be there to inspire us to get back up.

14. How does that show
that he is keeping us safe? An attack would backfire.

A terrorsit that tries to kill the President shows "we've got em on the run"

16. Agreed
I agree. A terrorist attack is pushing the envelope even farther than the Bush family could do. I think Cheney will back out as Vice President and we'll see a new "fresh face" on the ticket. Old Dick will still be close by though.

17. Mark my words - IT WILL NOT BACKFIRE
How does that show that he's keeping us safe?

That's not the point. With a REAL DISASTER rearing its ugly head again, it's their "proven ability" to retaliate in the face of danger that they want voters to focus on. They want to recapture W's highest approval ratings, which occurred after the 9-11 attacks and during the initial phases of the Afghanistan conflict.

The implication: Bush/Cheney are strong on defense. Why gamble on the other guys?

The truth: they want to justify invading Iran to cut out another segment of the OPEC price gougers. Not that something like that will make prices at the pumps any lower, but it comes down to the old adage: Buy low and sell high! And of course the other one that's applicable: No one ever went broke short-selling the intelligence of the American public.

18. yeah, it has more pluses than minuses
oddly enough---the fear "meme" is interesting. "Terrorists" by their nature are stealthy and atomized. So, "reasonable people know..." that they may get through at any time. But! Even with an attack you have two things going for you:
a. the idea that this one got through but others (many others) have probably been foiled
b. the press doing patriotic tub-thumping a la "the warrior king" again---oh, and reminding us all that we can't be 100% safe but that we have had ONLY one since 2001 and dare we change leaders at such a critical time?

Don't underestimate the concerted actions of the WH and the press on this. They want that dependency back and, frankly, they might not poll 90% but they'll hit 80% and that will be more than enough for both the election (by fair or by foul) and a nice little run at another oil country under the cover of retribution.

Oh, and gas prices will still rise. As for me: I think I'm going to put my money into Halliburton stock---its still going to do nothing but rise....

that they do not have enough military to go around. Doubt if we could even muster enough National Guard since so many are already being abused, oops, I meant used.

25. Think Statue of Liberty
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 07:16 AM by DoYouEverWonder

I think your analysis is pretty accuate, nefarious. Keep in mind that since 9-11 the Statue of Liberty has been closed to public, so that casualties would be very low. However, it is still a very high value target, that would rile everyone's emotions if something should happen to one of the main symbols of our democracy. Plus it would make Bu$h happy to get rid of that ugly green thing in NY harbor that the Frenchies gave us.

20. Number four would kill him
We know he's a fundie whackjob, but Main Street America hasn't come to that conclusion. Yet.

Let Bush bring in Benny Hinn, Jack Van Impe or any of the other snake-handlers he associates with, and the non-whackjob part of Christian America will walk.

I think he'll get bitten by a snake he handles on a campaign stop to a snake-handling church, his "supreme physical conditioning and belief in the Almighty God" will save him, and he'll come out even more religious than before.
