Why a constitutional amendment?
Is it because the courts won't speak on this until after the election? Did Bush go gung-ho on messing with the constitution because it is an election year? (I know, tough question.)

Bush couldn't wait for the states and the courts to work through the Defense of Marriage act. That would be too late to help him in the election. So, for the second time, Bush pegged our poor divided country's steering wheel and slammed on the accelerator for partisan political gain.

He and his crew will do anything to win. They have no shame, no responsibility, no accountability... They are cynical without limitation.

2. Flag-Burning Redux
Debating a constitutional amendment gives the issue "gravitas".

It will never fly, but it will serve as a necessary distraction.

3. The GOP said last summer that gay marriage would be an issue
this year. This has been planned for months. Its all GOP election year politics.

However, I think its a big risk. This strategy fails to answer how a candidate's position on gay marriage puts people back to work.

It is still the economy, stupid. Now more than ever.

5. Bush and his crew are evil

Yes, Bush is wanting to mess with the Constitution because it is an election year. The administration does not want the American people to think about Iraqnam or the poor economy. Instead, they are looking for ways to distract the American people from these problems.

They know that gays and lesbians pose no threat to marriage. However, they are a convenient "punching bag" for the Bush administration because it is still politically correct and legal to discriminate against gays and lesbians. In other words, he is using hate and prejudice to get another four years in office. Hopefully, the American people will reject this tactic and replace Bush with someone more qualified.
