Poll question: Which of these celebrities should run for office?
The Republicans were successful with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Which of these celebrities would do well in a Democratic run for office?

1. None of the above
I've never liked that idea that celebrity is a qualification for politics.

11. None of the above for me, as well
I do agree that they are citizens and should have a say in government, just as we should..

Being a celebrity does not qualify anyone to be a politician, except for the publicity part...and that is precisely why parties like them.. They have name recognition, without having to buy it.. BUT.. they also have a love/hate relationship with the public...and they usually have had money long enough, and at an early age (usually), so they are more likely to have had "many youthful ingisgressions"..

I usually get flamed for saying this, but I actually like the idea of term limits, so that many more could serve, and if they had limits, they might actually be able to legislate instead of constantly fund-raise..

I would love to see senators limited to 2 seven year terms, and congresspeople to 2 4 yr terms..(and they could only serve in each for 2 terms ...no bouncing back and forth)

This would almost guaratee that someone would not be bought as easily, and that they would not NEED the massive amounts of money..

I would limit the "campaign" phase of all elections to 3 months..public financing.. each candidate gets the same amount...free tv ..same amount of time.. real debates...

Computers should determine the redistricting, along real boundaries, and et the chips fall where they may..

Lobbying would be a felony..with mandatory sentences of 5 year minimum at a REGULAR prison..no parole..

That ought to do it...

Our founders never intended for people to leech of the government for their whole lifetimes.. They intended for learned men(and women now)to serve for a time, and then return to their real lives..

AND.. we need dorms for them to live in while in DC.. That would almost guarantee that they would be watching each other, and it would save a lot of money too.. They could ride a bus to the capitol every day..

Miss too many votes or committee meetings, and you are expelled, and the second highest vote getter in your race, goes in your place

tim robbins. i dunno. I could, personally, think of a million celebrities that deserve to be on this poll much more than Howard Stern. He bashes Bush for a day and gets fired from a fascist corporate conglomerate he's been working with for years, and he's a selection?

that they are willing to start with something less glamorous than a governorship or a Senate seat, and that they have the ability to listen to the people rather than dictate from their celebrity pedestal. I'm guessing that most celebrities have pretty healthy egos, and they're not used to people disagreeing with them. Plus, I would imagine that few if any of them are capable of effectively holding high-level office without any prior governing/legislative experience. Then they would just become a tool for whomever they surround themselves with. That's dangerous.

I don't the idea of people voting on name recognition alone, and that's pretty much all most celebrities have to offer. But if they're willing to work their way up, they are no different than any other citizen IMO.

16. None - Actors are for Republicans
Democrats like to elect actual representatives as opposed to actors playing the part.

19. How about scientists(real ones)...
Something we really need in Co ingress where so much time is wasted educating political hacks about biology 101 and just about anything else. They should also put more real fact experts on there staffs besides the political gurus and young hacks in apprenticeship.

We are going to need them big time and things will have to move faster and smarter. And you don't want to have to trust a rotating executive to imperially take on ALL pressing needs.
