Hey, NYC DUers!! Big party tonight!!
Just a reminder - Greg Palast is having a party tonight! It's a CD release party for his new CD 'Weapons of Mass Instruction' with proceeds going to the Greg Palast Investigative Foundation.

It's at CBGB Gallery (next to the legendary club on the Bowery), and it's gonna be a star-studded event. Jeanane Garafalo, Tom Tomorrow, Amy Goodman, Palast and others will be there. There'll be comedy, live music and a cash bar. Admission is a mere 20 bucks. More info here:

http://www.gregpalast.com/store.htm

I'll be the one with the TBTM t-shirt and camera. See you there, right? Right??

2. wish I could afford to go
if you do, thank Mr Palast and everyone from a soldier's mom who is in Iraq for telling the truth with clarity, in a world filled with lies and denial.
Thanks.

3. Hell, I would have gone to CBGB's tonight anyway
Website says on line tickets sold out, $25(!!!) at the door. Still, it's probably worth it. I'll be there with a Dennis Kucinich button on!

11. yeah, no tickets. I managed to get in a bit later-it was swamped inside
Garofalo-no-show!

Waaah!

There was THE most atrocious comedian in the universe, I forget his name, but I knew it was gonna be rough when they said he was on that Colin Quinn show last night. Within 5 minutes of his act, almost every one seated up front left.

I just know that somewhere, that comedian is staring at his bathroom mirror right now, eyes full of tears and stomach full of cheap booze.

KEEP CRYING!

12. Yeah, he was pretty bad....
But Palast was funny, and Amy Goodman was great.

Nostamj - sorry I didn't get back out to you. when I told them I had tickets waiting, they pointed me inside and I was ID'd and braceleted and in the middle of a crowd before I knew it.

Had me a great time - and got a book and CD signed by Palast while I was there.

13. yeah, it was fun... a treat meeting Palast

my father told me to tell him that under the Nazis and Soviets in Poland, they turned to the BBC for the truth. Under George W. Bush, apparently its back to the BBC for the truth again...

PALAST: "So its come full circle."

and I gotta admit, I took perverse, and I mean PERVERSE joy in watching that comedian bomb. It was positively Andy Kaufmanesque.

My gawd, was he doing concentration camp medical experimentation "jokes"!?!?!?

By the way, kinda weird seeing Gary Indiana throw punches at 3 people and be tossed to the pavement outside. I thought it was just some Bowery character and then squinted, went through my mental rolodex, and went: jeezus, isn't that the author/Voice columnist/etc?

A few minutes later, he started singing the song "Gary Indiana" in lieu of ID.

WEIRD. One minute, the New York Times says you're a "huge satirical talent" - the next, you're flat on your back on the sidewalk with people around muttering "poor man."

it does sound like a 'perverse' moment...

and the Gary Indiana incident, singing the Music Man song??? that's surreal...

15. americanstranger, it was a blast hanging out with you!
It was a great night. Fantastic energy. The place was packed.

nostamj, I'm sorry you didn't hang out. But you were right - it was really crowded and no place to sit at all. I managed to sit on the floor, under some tables, for a few minutes to hear Amy Goodman and Palast speak, but that was it and only near the end.

Does everyone know that Palast is being sued by Mario Cuomo?

Jackriddler: :hi: Pleased to meetcha!

16. Same here!
In the 'NYC weirdness' department -

when I hailed the cab at the end of the night, I got in the cab and looked at the cabbie. I asked him, 'Did you have a fare to Bowery and Bleecker at about 8:30 tonight?'

For both the trip downtown and the ride back to Penn Station, I had the same cabbie!! What are the odds of that?

Good to hang with you - no doubt we'll be seeing each other as the campaign year goes on.

22. AS it was great meeting you in person....
Stephanie...you rock...nostamj...I am sorry I missed you. I got there late. Bev had an interview that ran long and I could not get away. I was disappointed >thebigidea didn´t say hi. I got home at 5:00 AM after talking the night away with some of the most amaying people. They were telling me about the "old" New York. The way it used to be. At one point...I broke down and cried over 9/11. I could not help myself...I was truly just overcome with emotion. It is strange...I am not from New York 1st time here...but I know where it is. I want to go pay my respects...but I cannot bring myself to go there. Thanks to my New York DU friends for showing me a good time.

Andy

Man, it was loud in there. I have the faint feeling that not one goddamn word of the thousands I spat out was actually understood last night. Then again, I don't make much sense anyway.

Here I am stuck in Nowheresville, SC battling recurring pneumonia for 2 months. Man, I was NEVER this sick when I lived in NYC or LA.

So jealous of you all.

25. Andy, come over for dinner!
Not really, I know you can't. But if you want to go downtown I really think you should. It would be an easy walk from where you are and it's a beautiful day. Go down in the new PATH station and have a look. You see a lot of tourists at the WTC site, but they are universally respectful and just there to see for themselves. I think you should do it. Call me up if you want directions.
