lots of people who don't like the idea of gay marriage absolutely detest the idea of an amendment to the constitution banning it.

6. Regular Americans do not want their Constitution messed with, |

especially from a man who is only doing this to appeal to his base of rightwinger religious fundamentalists.

like the "evenly split" that the news media types keep talking about, does it?
That said, it certainly doesn't surprise me. The American people take our Constitution seriously. That's why frivolous things don't get very far. Things like the flag burning amendment and the constantly proposed balanced budget amendments are not embraced. This is another. On the whole, I think Americans are not as dumb as the Republicans think we are.

17. Yes, what about the 50/50 split? The ones who DON'T |
|
want gay marriage? It appears they don't want to mess with the Constitution, either. Good. Frivolous is definitely the word for it, polmaven. What gets me, though, is how many people don't realize that this is nothing but a Shrub smokescreen - he knew there was no way it would pass Congress, but had to find some way to deflect questions about the economy, his ANG service, WMD's, Halliburton, etc.

I've been watching this and there are an enormous amount of votes coming in every minute, and the shift is toward "no". Not sure if their cheating ways can overcome that kind of advantage, but someone with a stronger stomach than mine should go over to FR, find the post on this, and forward it to USA Today to alert them.

19. No matter what the poll says...Bush did a fantastic job |
|
of changing the subject. The press is hardly talking about the Primaries anymore or discussing Bush being AWOL. Everytime he gets bad publicity...he changes the subject. Damn...he makes my blood boil! What a uniter!
