My Letter Was Published! Yay for me! |
|
My letter to the editor was a response to a previous letter where a local women wrote that Democrats are angry and bitter.
Here is a copy below:
Letters: Democrats have reason to be angry, bitter
Editor, The Post-Crescent:
In response to Ann Grosskopf’s Feb. 20 letter, in which she states that the Democratic Party is angry and bitter, I would have to agree with her.
We are angry at being denied a fair election process in 2000 and we are bitter because we have had to put up with an appointed president who is leading the country to ruin.
Regarding Bush’s fighter-pilot days, she states that we didn’t think that military service was an issue with President Clinton. President Clinton was given a student deferment to attend Oxford University on a Rhodes scholarship.
George Bush, on the other hand, received a high draft number and bounded past 500 men in line ahead of him to use his daddy’s influence to get into the “champagne” unit of the Texas Air National Guard to fulfill his duty to his country by protecting the skies of Texas from attack.
How nice that he was able to take time off to go to Alabama and work on a Senate campaign (with Daddy’s blessing) while others went to Vietnam in his place to fight, be wounded and to die.
Suppose some of our current National Guard members would like to take a little time off and not go to Iraq. I’m sure any of the more than 540 men and women who have been killed in this war of deceit and the thousands who have been wounded would like a little “time off” from their military duty.
The bottom line is that Bush has lied to the American people over and over again and, because it doesn’t involve sex, we are just not interested.
Yes, I guess you could say that we are angry and we are bitter.

i write to my local paper often, and usually get published. I think this is because I'm just about the only progressive in this small city, not because I am a grand writer.
Funny thing is though, all of the people who read my letters that I know in this city, all say I am correct in my observations. This leads me to ask why they vote GOP; I have yet to get a viable answer. I usually get, "because I always have", or some other such banal explanation.
You did well, you put the issues right up front, and made people think! Thanks for planting seeds, keep writing the paper, nurture those seeds until they they become the stuff ideology is made of!

I had one published in the Chicago Sun Times about paper ballots and the danger of computers, etc.
Keep at them.

I live in a small town and wrote a letter to the paper decrying the war, and there have been no negative responses...only a letter about LIHOP...I think people are changing and mad..only a few people seem to be hanging onto the bu$h mantra... today at our small town peace vigil we got honks and thumbs up...only 3 people gave us the finger..thats a real change for this GOP town.. Good letter! thanks for mentioning the soldiers who died.

Congratulations on getting it published. I'm angry and bitter with you but like you, I'm not going to give up. This is too important not to set the record straight.
Bush lied and thousands have died.
