Some news about foreign tourism and investment.
I subscribe to an anti-death penalty listserve, and the question of boycotting the US over capital punishment has come up. Such a boycott is not being taken very seriously, but it has spawned some interesting offshoots. Here is an excerpt from one of the postings from a Brit.

Take it for what you will...

"The Financial Times in London has reported that tourism to the States is not what it was. Florida has quite a shortfall.

Nearly everyone now has also heard horrendous stories of over-zealous US immigration. A friend of mine and her 80 year old husband had a very bad time at I think Atlanta, where after being in the queue for four hours, he collapsed. I think they missed the plane. They will not be visiting again, as will most of their friends and thousands of others with similar stories.

In other words the cheap dollar is attracting those for whom price is
everything, but on the other hand those who spend a lot in the States on holiday, are going elsewhere, to places like the Caribbean, the Far East and especially South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

<...>

I was also recently talking to the finance director of a multi-billion
pound UK group. They are making serious decisions about moving
factories out of the US, because of the harassment they are getting on
entering into the country. Some of their Asian employees have been very badly treated. Complaints were met with threats of non-entry or prison.

So there really isn't any need to promote a boycott, the US government
is doing it for you!"

1. I stopped going there 2 years ago and used to ..........................
go to the US about 4 times a year prior to that. No thanks. Not even if I was sent free flight tickets now.

My girlfriends and I have travelled to Boston every year for as long as I can remember. Not this year though.... I have long black hair and a dark complexion...... my friends tease that I look more Middle Eastern than French Canadian and while that's funny and we joke about it, it really does impact on our travel plans.

I honestly feel we're not welcome there anymore.
